Big Ten Discussion

Very good big-picture point. Izzo’s best teams rely on mistake-free upperclassmen, and struggles with talented freshmen. And say what you will about Langford and his efficiency and all that – he’d probably make fewer mistakes than any freshman. It could however result in one of those Sparty teams that peaks at the right time late in the season.

We’ll see. They almost never live up to the hype when they come in ranked really high. Here’s hoping . . .

That usually corresponds with him having a great recruiting class, but his system struggles to tolerate mistakes and usually thrives with less talent, a smaller margin of error, and guys that just dial in and execute so well under those circumstances. This time around he has an older team.

MSU fans are really big defenders of Kyle Ahrens. Or at least the ones I’m finding on Reddit. They insist he’s underrated and a great defender

I think Kyle Ahrens is a better player and teammate than we give him credit for. He’s certainly not a star. He’s just a guy that comes in, works hard, a “glue” guy who doesn’t make too many mistakes and sets a tone for others around him. He works hard in practice, and he does his job when he gets into games. His teammates love him. You need those kind of players and MSU has one in Ahrens.

Ahrens is a good piece, I just think he’s a lot better as a small ball four than a starting two.

Which again shows the versatility he has and what he is able to provide for the team. You NEED those players. The TEAM. The TEAM. The TEAM. “I will do what I need to do to help the team.” Valuable, whether he is better as a small ball four, and he may be, or as a two, or as a three, or “whatever you ask me to do for the team, coach.” My only point was that he is more valuable than we, as Michigan fans, want to give him credit for.

Eh he knows where to go and doesn’t embarrass himself

I agree, but on a great team he’s a role player off the bench. Seems like his brother is going to be better than him.

I generally agree with the notion that “they don’t have a Matt McQuaid to fall back on this year” re: Langford, but I’d also argue that Matt McQuaid was not what Matt McQuaid ended up being at this point last year, at least in public perception.

This is why I haven’t been buying the Purdue top 3-4 hype. Love Painter, but who scores on this team? Eastern didn’t play in the scrimmage, but he’s not exactly a scorer himself.

Exactly. Carsen Edwards scored 24 a game last year, and Cline was the only other guy who averaged double figures. And both are gone. I like Wheeler, I think he’s interesting. But I think they are vastly overrated.

Maybe it has to do more with Ed Cooley. Knew we hired the wrong guy!!!:rofl::rofl:

Didn’t realize that, feels pretty significant. He’s not a scorer, but I assume he’ll have a key role running the offense.

Box score… those shooting numbers :flushed:

They are looking for Proctor (grad transfer) to be a major contributor, not sure if he makes that happen but that seems to be the plan as of right now.

Kind of surprised that Boudreaux is still on Purdue’s roster. Coming off of two productive years at Dartmouth I recall a fair amount of excitement with his transfer, but last season he barely played after the non-conference and once again looks like he’s barely going to play if he only got 10 minutes in this scrimmage.

Adjusted floor and ceiling for Michigan this year (that is, adjusted for fantasizing after semi-secret scrimmage and sketchy intel from other teams)?

I’d say we could finish as high as second and as low as fifth.

I feel like 7th as a floor is definitely still possible if we’re a bit of a mess.
