Big Ten Discussion

Lol. Loved Quinn giving it to Dylan all last year about “Archie Island”.

brian hamilton did an amazing job with this piece… such an unbelievably tragic story

Both will be good. Indiana will be a sleeper imo this year. There is still a lot of talent there. If Archie is as good as everyone said at Dayton he will win a lot of Games this year.

Problem is that I don’t think Archie is that good. His run at Dayton essentially consisted of one year with a big run in March. Keep in mind his roster last year consisted of Romeo and Morgan. I think those 2 could have played on any B1G team and he basically did nothing with them.

I don’t think Archie is going to last at Indiana. They got rid of Crean, who was fired for being weird and not contending in the conference on a regular basis. Archie’s first two years were basically Crean’s down years after he built the program back up. And this year looks like another NIT team. Don’t know how he turns it around in time. He’s recruiting fine. But the freshman and sophomores need to grow up quick.

My point kind of. If they don’t succeed it would be on him. Sure the guard / ball situation isn’t amazing but it should be better with another year for those guys.

I liked Anderson, race, and hunter coming out of high school. Smith is solid, then add in Davis squared and they got pieces.

Not sure where to put this but wanted to share. I had the honor to attend the HOF induction ceremony for JB last night with a few former teammates at Canisius college. As expected, JB displayed the character and humbleness of the Michigan man he is. He remarkably went through the 5 seasons at Canisius in great detail to the joy of those in the audience and the players he coached. All 5 assistants are now head coaches in their own right. He used the opportunity to send a message to the many coaches and athletic directors in attendance to reinforce his belief in character and culture. I’m paraphrasing as he spoke to the coaches in attendance but JB said winning is about “ THE CULTURE, THE CULTURE, THE CULTURE, the players can’t learn it, it has to be taught!” To me that defines his success…teach culture! He is and will always be one hell of a coach, mentor and teacher!

We are getting closer to the season everyone. Big Ten Media Day is this week and the unofficial conference poll should be coming out tomorrow. Should be some fun storylines to discuss. I’ll have a story explaining my ballot tomorrow but how would you guys rank the league?

I’ll bite, save all your homer comments.

I was curious about this, so I decided to look at all the 247 composite rankings going back to 2003. I looked for the lowest-ranked 4-stars. The 2021 ranking is an outlier, with 165th being the lowest. Except for 2003 when 103rd was the lowest, it’s otherwise bounced around without any discernible trend, though there is a slight U-shape. My guess is that 2021 will ultimately normalize.

My reasoning is basically going with “knowns.” Alot of questions regarding 2-7 IMO. Any order of those teams and I wouldn’t be surprised. But I’m going with Purdue at #2 because I think Painter is the best coach in the conference outside Izzo. I think Holtmann is a really good coach too. Maryland has talent, but I question Turgeon alot. They’re good enough for a double bye just by talent alone though. Illinois and Michigan return more than Wisconsin IMO. And Gard has been up and down as a coach. Can he survive without Happ?

With football they always add more 5 and 4 stars later in the cycle. I don’t know if they follow the same pattern for basketball prospects.

I think we could feature anywhere from 3-4 to 7th, but see a huge silver lining for Juwan in the low rankings. Over-achieve this year–great. Simply meet expectations and buy time.
