Big Ten Discussion

Agreed @chezaroo, I know JB said it…I just don’t think he coached it (well).

I also don’t mean to have a negative tone with that… If we are all in agreement that some guys aren’t good with their back to the basket, which clearly Michigan hasn’t had in recent years, then is it really a better shot despite a 6 to 8 inch advantage?

I just saw commentary on TV, Internet, etc. that would lead you to believe we were having mental lapses for not feeding it inside on the switch. My argument is simply that it was by design to keep the ball on the perimeter in those situations

The other side of the coin, you might have a more effective attack against switching by changing personnel or system or emphasis, but what if the base offense isn’t effective enough to force teams to switch?

There are going to be a lot of moving parts, fascinated to see how it all plays out.

Yeah. Centers that are both good enough to do that without drawing NBA interest are surely hard to come by? Or maybe not, these days? The NBA hates centers. Maybe you can find more of those guys. Certainly it’s not as if Howard is looking for them by recruiting Kessler or Dickinson. Hard to see either one sticking around more than a year or two.

Dickinson isn’t a one year dude

Spot on…agree 100%. You can sag in the middle all day if you’d can’t hit the jumper.

Or two? I’ve read that he’s a bit of a project as well, yes.

Yep, the NBA center is not your back to the basket guy. It will be interesting to see how JH adjusts his strategy, the game is really focused on the three ball. Increase in attempts every year with increased ball movement. The ISO game is dying, guys like MELO can’t find a job.

You don’t have to prove it first with the NBA. If he’s got enough agility and lateral quickness the NBA will come calling. Guys like Happ who can dominate college ball for three years without having an NBA body are so rare.

And yet it’s still the mainstay in the NBA. Just as Beilein was starting to say, you’ve got to have that guy to just get past his man off the dribble or create some space for his efficient jumper. Melo just operates in slow motion in doing this and is a defensive disaster.

I wouldn’t say the iso game is dying, per say. Basketball is still about creating mismatches, especially at the NBA level. Melo can’t find a job because he’s strictly an iso guy and he is no longer good at that.

Melo also can’t find a job because he has Iverson-syndrome and won’t come off the bench.

James Harden basically lives off of ISO basketball. The ISO game is not dead, it has just moved out to the 3-point line.

Better stated yes…

But I will ask, can they win with the ISO? Gotta have ball movement and complimentary parts to Harden’s game. Same with Westbrook, ball domination is not the answer.

Went to G7 against GSW 2 years ago. Game 6 against GSW this year. Both series involved injuries to CP3. So yes, they were probably the 2nd best team that last two years when healthy and fully engaged.

They built their team to be complimentary to Harden. We shall see how it works out with Westbrook

Dylan’s favorite B1G team gets a big piece back. Look out

Illinois is my pet team this year.
