Haarms is a sophomore? He’s annoying, but he’s going to be pretty good before it’s all over.
Whoa, this Iowa-MD game got interesting all of a sudden.
Had a lot of buzz because of their Elite Eight run and improving their conference record each year for the last four years at Dayton. His two conference titles were also after some of the other top teams in the conference left. He’s a good recruiter but I don’t think he’s too great at anything else.
Turgeon is still winless on the road against ranked teams, right? Can he finally get over the hump?
It does seem like he is going to be able to get talent, but he just looks in over his head as an in-game coach.
I’m ready for another crazy Iowa buzzer beater.
Can Iowa do it for a third straight game?!
Edit: nope!
According to KenPom, U of M has had the easiest conference schedule to date so far. Purdue has just been fortunate that they won 3 close road games (2 in OT and this latest 2 point win against Indiana). But, they haven’t had that easy of a schedule.
Turgeon finally does it.
Yeah, this makes sense. But Michigan is about to make up some ground with MSU H/@, @Minny, @Maryland. But I agree with you, Purdue didnt lose any games that it shouldve won
Looking more and more likely that we will have to share a title with Purdue if we’re lucky enough to get the title. I’ve been assuming that our realistic best case down the stretch is 4-1.
So we’d need Purdue to lose at least 1 game somewhere. Their next game is @Nebraska and I thought Nebraska had some life left after winning 2 straight games, but they just got boat raced by PSU. I think @Minnesota is their best chance for a loss with the OSU and Illinois home games being next most likely.
It’s gonna feel weird if Purdue wins out and wins the league solo.
Iowa with a pathetic 19-58 shooting exhibition at home.
Starters combined for a dreadful 10-41 effort.
B1G shooting prowess becoming laughable as season progresses.
Indiana - Purdue might have set records for futility in their series.
Indiana 15-55 and 5-25 from three.
Purdue 18-60 and 6-30 from three.
Teams combined for 11-55 from deep. A robust 20%.
I’m beginning to think all you gotta do on D is be a presence and than watch teams flail and chuck. Horrendous shooting teams abound in the conference this year.
Would have been nice if they showed that kind of shooting prowess against Michigan!
Carsen Edwards contributed mightily to that putrid line for Purdue:
- 4/14 from two
- 0/10 from three
- 1/2 from the stripe (don’t forget Purdue’s awful 4/9 mark!)
Not a fan of Carsen Edwards, BUT, when they needed a bucket at the end to win the game, they put it in Edwards’ hands and he scored the winning bucket. Horrible performance throughout the game, “jacked up” threes, etc, really bad shots, but when they needed him most…he came through.
He then promptly missed a stepback jumper on the penultimate possession! He should be buying Matt Haarms a lot of beers, err, sodas for tipping in his miss.
You are absolutely right, MH! How did I forget THAT! Oh, that’s right, I’m old and my memory isn’t as good as it used to be!
I’ll take the sucker’s bet tonight with Rutgers + the points. 16 just feels like too many for a team without its second best player.
Given what Haarms did in Assembly Hall, I was thinking about the best “villian” moments B1G players have had this year. I’m not implying any player is evil at all. Just those moments where you grow hoarse from booing them (or cheering them if they are on your team).
A few off the top of my head in no specific order (and I post this for others to add to):
- Iggy’s little late-game dust-up with Iyo (I think) from Illinois.
- Simpson having a diplomatic discussion with Kaleb Wesson.
- Fernando’s chest stomp on a Nebraska player (forgot who)
- Ward, every time he dunks and lets out a primal scream (read: every time he dunks).
- Haarms whispering sweet nothings to Indiana.
- Davison against anyone not wearing a cup.
- Davison’s flop against… well, the league.
- Haap blowing kisses to the Minnesota crowd when the game was decided.
- Any player who does the finger “shushing” when the game ain’t over.
- The lady who was in the front row after Bohannon hit the game winner against Northwestern.
Just a start. Every great drama needs a hero and a villian…
