How many B1G spots do you think Kohler is worth?
You said 6-8th earlier. Let’s say Kohler never commits and their 5s are Marble and Sissoko. Still 6-8th or do they plummet?

I think they’d plummet in that scenario for sure. Would be like if Michigan didn’t have a freshman center during HD’s first year and had to go Johns/Davis at the spot.
Izzo would probably be forced into full time small ball with Hauser at the 5 and Hall at the 4, which I don’t hate but would make them so thin everywhere.
If it’s Marble i think they’re probably better but w a bit lower ceiling. If it’s just Sissoko, they’d be much worse but realistically that means they’d just play Hall and Hauser at the 5 and be fine. Sissoko is just so, so bad. Like, would he start in the MAC? I am far from confident.
Didn’t freshman Nick Ward do a ton/most of his damage on the offensive boards?
That particular MSU team was a bit odd, Bridges is the only guy that played over 23 MPG. I think that this iteration of MSU with Hoggard, Walker, Hauser, Hall, maybe Akins has enough guys that will take shots that I’m just really not seeing 14 PPG. 14 PPG as a freshman playing 25 MPG is Zach Edey/Hunter Dickinson stuff. I get Ward did it as well but that was a mountain of a man as well. That’s not Kohler.
He’s gonna need an offseason before he can avoid being pushed around. They’re just gonna dump it down to him and he’s gonna score on 3-4 post ups a game? If Kohler scores 14 PPG this year, he’s legitimately on the Luka Garza track.
My recollection is he just ran his tuchus off getting early position. Once B1G play hit he was pretty meh.
EDIT: His TS% in conference was unchanged and his usage actually went up and he drew a ton of fouls w a solid block rate. Maybe his problem was always just conditioning and Mo Wagner?
Yep. All transition or quick post-hooks in early offense after transition was stopped
Freshman Nick Ward in conference play only: 14.0 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 1.4 BPG, 21 minutes
Freshman Hunter Dickinson in conference play only:
14.1 PPG, 7.8 RPG, 1.4 BPG, 26 minutes
Ward was legit good. He did definitely hit a wall late but his numbers the first 60% of conference season were pretty monstrous enough to hold averages high.
I don’t think Ward and Kohler are super similar players stylistically, it’s just a good comp for opportunity in the MSU system at that spot when your biggest competition is Mady Sissoko. If Kohler can score, he’ll play and based on everything we’ve seen from him the expectation is he’ll be able to score right away.
I feel confident Kohler will get up and down the court as fast as he possibly can.
Thomas Kithier ate up 6 minutes per game every game at center his true freshman year so
You think he will offensively match Hunter Dickinson’s output as a freshman?
It’s possible, but I was just pointing out that Ward wasn’t bad in conference play with that.
My expectation for Kohler is 20-25 minutes a game scoring 12-14 PPG next season, probably 6-7 rebounds and being a turnstile defensively.
Honestly the more I think about it Moe Wagner’s sophomore year is right around what I think Kohler will be next season.
He’s going to shoot 60% on twos and 40% on threes right out of the gate?
Wait… you think freshman Kohler is >> Senior Marble?!
Looking back I thought @BigBoutros’ scenario didn’t include Marble. Thought it was referencing just Sissoko.
But I do think freshman Kohler will be a better player than senior Marble. Similar issues defensively and I think Kohler’s better offensively. Marble’s best offensive skill was shooting long twos.
I think he’s capable of that yes. Probably not a ton of attempts from three but 2-3 a game, upper 30s percentage wise.
I know literally nothing about Jaxon Kohler but is all of this hype coming from somewhere? Is it conventional wisdom that he’s frontrunner for B10 FOTY?
The Boutros Book of Nightmares
Sleepers media agenda has been going hard since Kohler yammed on Reed.
