If msu continues to shoot 55% from 3 every game then yes I agree they will win the title

Until like 3 weeks ago Akins was a sub 100 ORTG guy with small usage. The small usage part is still true but now he’s hitting every shot and hit exactly 100 ORTG

Haha 50+% is probably unsustainable, but it’s 3 games in a row. They are up to 40% on the total season - top 5 in the country and #1 of any power conference team (just slightly ahead of Xavier)

Fair question. Akins is a little under the radar I guess…not sure why. Maybe his role is more of a tweener projecting to the NBA? Not sure. I guess it is possible, especially if they make some noise in March and he hits threes.

Where does a 6-3 off ball wing fit in the NBA? I’ve always liked Jaden but what he’s doing right now doesn’t fit the archetype he needs to be.

Bufkin playing on the ball presents a different skill set.

Compare their 2 point numbers too, massive difference.

I’d suggest he doesn’t have Jett drawing NBA scouts in droves to every arena he plays in. Maybe, too, NBA types know Izzo has a hold on his players and just refuses to let them leave. Finally, while I think Akins is a really good player, I think Kobe is better*, and I’m going back to high school when they were both among the cream of the crop in Michigan.

  • I might be biased about Kobe being better , but I really have followed both of them since they arrived on the scene in high school.

It’s gonna suck if/when Akins becomes a beast as an upperclassman and provides more for msu than Bufkin does for us even though Bufkin turned out to be better by far

I know this is not popular to say, but Michigan State is a really good basketball team right now. Walker is amazing. Hauser is playing like he really wants to get drafted. Akins is very good. Hall is getting healthy(?) and he’s pretty tough. I’ve never like Hoggard but he’s solid. I’ve never like Sissoko, either, but he understands his role and what Izzp expects him to do.

By the way, this is not my Boutros imitation, though, if Ohio State comes back I’ll probably claim it is!

Izzo has people in such a trance that they can be beating the second to last team in conference by 3 at home and everyone is worried about them making a run

Interesting. Was there a setback or was this a decision by one side or the other?

And there goes Izzo! Acting like a madman again, out on the floor, jumpin’ around…complaining. And then he gets his way! OK, finally Borowski told hold to go back and sit down. Honestly, that should happen everytime. ā€œCoach sit down, coach your team and stop yapping at me, and if you come out on the floor again, I’m gonna T you up!ā€

Edit: Did anyone notice how Holtman acted when his kid got fouled on that drive with no call. He politely asked the ref to come over and talk to him. He did not go crazy, but not sure sure the ref even went over to him. If he did they didn’t show it on TV. We’ve always said it, but it is mind boggling that Izzo is treated so differently than other coaches.

I think not bringing Johnson back makes total sense even if he’s healthy - they’ve played with Hood-Schifino at the point for so long, figuring out how to play with the two of them during the highest stakes games just wasn’t feasible.

It’s not even a knock on Xavier but this isn’t the time of year to figure it out

on the contrary, i strongly feel they should roll out a whole new roster tomorrow.

nothing ventured, nothing gained!

I really want PSU and Rutgers to win for BTT purposes. If either loses we’re playing MSU again… Then again those are the opposite of what we want for bubble purposes. Tough situation. PSU winning would either give them a Q1 win or possibly lose us a Q1 win

So if PSU or Rutgers loses and we lose we play MSU in the 8/9 game? Is that locked in?

No. MSU would be way above that. We’d play Rutgers. But if we win we’d play them in the 4/5 or 3/6

Izzo starting a ā€œone more yearā€ chant for Tyson Walker. Jaden Akins transfer watch has officially begun.

It looks like Indiana is going to seek a medical hardship waiver for Xavier - so this could also be about keeping their powder dry for next year - makes sense, you have to assume JHS is outta there, and if not you have an off-season to figure out how to get them to play together.
