BQ wrote about it some time ago but Maryland has made some odd budgeting and facility investment choices since coming to the B10 to try to become a football school at the expense of the basketball program
But still, with the new coach buzz youâd think theyâd have gotten a sellout before February this year.
Yeah, maybe. Biggggg arena though. I think it hold something like 18k Hard to sell out December games and then they lost a bunch of games before their more recent Big Ten home games.
Thatâs a good point. I donât know why schools build these NBA-sized arenas. Even from a revenue standpoint, I think youâre better off with a smaller venue that you can sell out regularly.
This game is good and fun and makes no sense.
The Xfinity Center is huge, itâs a a charmless arena, and smack in the middle of one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in metro DC
Itâs sort of on campus but 2/3 of Maryland students commute (because College Park is bad)
Itâs not ideal
They probably shouldnât have turned their old arena over to the football team
Generally been a pretty good atmosphere there whenever Iâve been, for whatever thatâs worth.
Their old arena was legitimately one of the scariest places in college hoops for an opposing team, at least in the Gary Williams eta
Yeah, I understand that but Iâm not sure what the alternative is. Just play in the ancient arena forever?
I guess they could renovate it but I also feel like Xfinity Center attendance isnât a problem with the Xfinity Center it is a problem with how mediocre Maryland has been for an extended stretch.
Penn State says, âI have no idea what youâre talking about.â
I didnât realize how favorable Marylands schedule is down the stretch. I am suddenly feeling pretty good about them staying as a Q1 even if I donât totally trust their team.
Purdue will be tough, but they get them at home where they are 13-1. Then they go @Neb, MN, NW, @OSU, @PSU. Feels like a few wins.
Yep â Maryland is in a great spot for a double bye in Chicago.
Announcers: Getting to 60 might win this game.
Less than 4 minutes in: Rutgers has 10 points and FTs coming up.
Yet the announcers still may be right.
Terps and Pitt did their job to make this a good day. Now itâs time for Michigan to make it a great day
I donât think anyone on the planet hates anyone or anything more than Brad Underwood hates Terrence Shannon.
o/u 30 second handshake/hug in the line between Juwan and Shannon following the Illinois game
I tuned in just in time to see Shannon take an awful three and then complain passionately to the refs that he was fouled (he was not).
Player taking on the personality of his coach and fanbase.
Pretty much Shannonâs entire half has been hunting for foul calls, that he hasnât gotten until the very end
Rutgers missed a dunk on a fast break and Illinois turned that into 4 straight points
