I think we are going to get totally crushed and dejected Izzo tonight. Hanging his head, mumbling, talking about how he doesn’t know what to do…
I agree with your disagreement. I just think they won’t put a shot clock on the refs because the culture is to protect the refs. Whether it’s deciding possession or how much time is left on the clock, I don’t think the powers that be will subject the refs to “we have all this technology at your disposal but we are still going to force you to guess if you haven’t figured it out in 2 minutes”
I’m not, 'cause I’m not gonna watch!
Lol that’s actually a really good point.
But after 2 minutes of watching it with said technology…
B1G Tournament seeding is pretty simple now for those that care.
Loss = 8 seed playing Indiana.
Win AND Rutgers beating PSU AND MSU beating Maryland = 8 seed playing Indiana.
Win AND (one of Rutgers loss OR MSU loss) = 7 seed playing Maryland
Win AND (Rutgers loss AND MSU loss) = 7 seed playing Penn State
Remaining scenarios. 7 with a win (also would need a Maryland win if Rutgers wins), 8 otherwise.
As complete garbage as msu looks, they aren’t gonna lose to maryland.
And Rutgers is likely winning at home versus penn state.
God I wish we’d just win at columbus.
3 Total wins there since 2003 (2003, 2014, and 2021).
Meanwhile they walked into our place for 2 in a row (2020 and 2022).
They’ll both be back Sunday.
And yet they are going to make the tournament despite looking like complete garbage the last month.
And only made it last year thanks to our disinterested performance.
And despite this team being much better than their 2021 team, we are gonna be the ones that manage to actually miss the tournament.
Because they beat their version of seton hall (uconn)
And didn’t schedule an idiotic road game @ ucf.
Otherwise the teams are the exact same. Mediocre tournament teams.
But they won. Which is why they make the tournament every year.
Maryland’s playing better these days. I think Sparty probably will end the skid but a loss wouldn’t entirely shock me.
It might be close for a bit.
But msu wins easily in the end.
Tired: The race to get on Wisconsin’s side of the bracket.
Wired: The race to get away from Iowa’s side of the bracket.
Thank you for your concern, Tom
I would take a Michigan win on Sunday and a matchup with IU on Thursday. If we still needs wins - IU/Wisc is our best shot.
Yeah, the 8/9 game is probably the best pure path to “boosting the resume”… Chance that it is a Q1 win on Day 1 and then the lowest ranked team you could face on Friday.
Interesting scheduling note and reminder of how hard our path to making the tournament is:
Of the 11 games after 2/1- Michigan has played 5 top 15 teams (per Torvik), and another 3 against top 25 teams- MSU is only top 50. Of the 10 games played to date they have 5 wins (unsurprisingly). If they end up over .500 in this stretch by winning at OSU they will have met my expectations for the season even if the seed line they earn won’t reflect it. I expected around a top 25 team that takes time to gel, but is dangerous in March. That’s basically what we got, we just had a brutal last 6 weeks that matched up when our play improved and we struggled more early to get here.
