Big Ten Basketball 2021-22 Discussion

There’s never going to be a banner shortage in Champaign

Your comment made me think of those small Beilein teams that had similar sized/athletic guys 2-3-4…and sometimes even the 1. My brother, who only follows the basketball team casually, asked me today if Juwan has some issues with talent identification given the struggles of most of the roster this year. My answer was a definitive NO overall…but the one thing that worries me is the lack of positional flexibility with most of the guys he’s recruited. Being “switchable” gives you more ways to get guys on the court for offense and gives you more options on how to defend. Your comment made me think of that.

Next year’s projected roster (knowing that is totally a wild card) has very few guys that can easily play more than one position. Six guys project to be PF or C exclusively and two guys are undersized PG-only players. THAT might be the area to monitor with Juwan’s future roster management.

We’ve retired Rice’s jersey.

IIRC, we have a requirement that you have to have graduated first, so a guy like Trey probably needs to get some classes in.

Basketball has to get on the bandwagon of retiring or honoring more players/jerseys. Hockey hasn’t even started yet…

Geo is showing Liddell what he can expect to see in the NBA, and it can’t be encouraging.

So EJ is returning for another year… Btw were people sleeping on Branham this year?? He won’t win frosh of the year but watching him he’s always looked good.

Why do you say that?

Did Rice graduate?

Don’t know for sure, but would assume so.

Based upon the comment EJ is having issues guarding smalls on switches. It’s not surprising really because EJ is probably an undersized 4 in the NBA, or an oversized 3. I really don’t see a path for EJ to be a full time NBA guy.

Not following, but which comment? I’d be pretty shocked if Liddell doesn’t go pro and get drafted this year.

Bounce made a comment that EJ was having difficulty with handling Geo.

Yeah Rice had his jersey number retired years ago. 2005

To be fair, he’s got plenty of company.

I think @bounce’s brand is more Geo Baker jokes than NBA scouting.

So silly that OSU gets a free timeout here to review tenths of a second on an OOB call when every other OOB throughout the entire game has an equivalent tenths of seconds “incorrectly” run off the clock.

I thought we only retired Cazzie Russell’s jersey, while Rice’s jersey is one of five that is ‘honored’ and hung in the rafters.

EDIT: Rutgers is the only Big Ten Team I like, and they still play like a Big East team.

Yeah, for example Michigan legend Blake McLimans wore 22, Bill Buntin’s number.

I am so here for Rutgers building the dumbest, greatest tournament resume of all time.

Lose to Lafayette, DePaul, UMass, Minnesota with seven healthy players, Northwestern, and Maryland at home.

Beat Purdue, Michigan with seven healthy players, Iowa, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Maryland on the road.

Sure. Makes sense. Why not? Still got two games left with begging-to-be-picked-off Wisconsin too.
