Big Ten Basketball 2021-22 Discussion

I feel a tiny bit vindicated for my insistence last year that Bingham could still turn into a real asset.

An old baseball coach of mine used to say if he was yelling at us that was a good thing, because he hadn’t given up on us yet. Same vibes with Izzo. When he gives up on them he just stares slack-jawed into the middle distance for a while.

I also feel God about my statement the other day after listening to the pod that MSU hadn’t played anyone and their best B10 win was at Wisconsin without Wahl - a team Dylan thinks is a sell stock.

MSU is a good team and will still contend. But they have warts just like anyone else in the league. The turnovers and half court offense are the ones that come to mind. I also think that they are still counting heavily on a lot of guys that have been erratic during their careers and driven Izzo to bench them. This isn’t yet Christie and Akins team. It is still Bingham, Brown, Hauser, and Hall.

Illinois is probably the most complete team but injuries have been their issue. Michigan has shooting and defensive issues. Wisconsin needs Davis to carry a bad roster. Iowa is Iowa. Indiana can’t shoot. OSU has guard issues. Purdue is the one team I cant figure out why they have been erratic.

Sure. Most likely not a perfect team. But if they keep beating all the imperfect teams, eventually they just start to look consistent. That being said, their upcoming stretch is likely going to tell us whether or not that’s the case.

The thing I’m scared about is that usually Izzo eventually figured things out. Like last year he stopped playing Kithier and Loyer so much. I’m scared that eventually he’ll play Bingham 30 MPG. They won’t be unbeatable at that point but they’ll be much improved.

Also… there’s no way Bingham uses his 5th year at MSU… right? Please? I’d be open to him using it in the state of Michigan though

I will not be shocked if Bingham plays in the nba a bit, he has that type of upside

Projected SOS metrics for Big Ten games FWIW:

Michigan not really going away in the EM numbers… Couple more wins could make this one look very interesting:

Michigan has had the second easiest conference schedule so far… ahead of MSU

Yep – Wisconsin has played a really tough schedule which is part of that but still interesting to see those numbers.

I’m surprised MSU has the #1 most difficult remaining schedule with only one game against Purdue (at home), one game against OSU and the games at Wisconsin and Illinois already out of the way. But I guess not playing Nebraska, Northwestern or Minnesota again carries a lot of weight. No nights off so to speak

Yep. MSU has 6 KP-A games, 4 KP-B games, 1 non-AB game, then the Michigan game (which is another KP-A game and Torvik includes).

Not sure Bingham could endure 30 minutes.

Maybe this is the case and something that Izzo knows. But I feel like you have to at least try? Or build him up to that point.

Just looking at it from the lens of a Michigan fan, I don’t see anybody else on their roster being able to slow Hunter down. Sissoko maybe but he seems to be buried. Any of Marble/Hauser/Hall doesn’t stand much of a chance against Hunter.

Depends somewhat on how physical the refs allow them to be with Hunter.

If you hid the records and hadnt watched the games, that efficiency chart actually aligns pretty well with preseason expectations.

Wisco w/ easiest remaining slate and not by a little. That may keep some air in the balloon.

sounds like Rob Phinisee just had a terrible injury in the PSU@IU game. possible Achilles

Stop the fight

Safe to say that IU is going to be 13-0 in home games not against Michigan.
