Yeah that was a bad call. Seemed to be completely influenced by the reaction (the player was down for a while, and the coach was irate about it). Officiating has been bad, bust mostly benefited Illinois until now.
Yup, not a good call. Mizzou guy oversold it and Cuonzo going nuts probably helped them get the call.
Awful. Insane to call that after going to the monitor.
Illinois will get the last possession, a 3 will tie the game.
In other news, things had really skewed to making you earn an offensive foul in CBB. As much as I was raised in a take the charge system, I think it was a good thing. And that seems completely out the window in CBB this year. Why?
And not at all surprising to see our good friend Terry Wymer prominently involved.
Not in the least
I mean if they saw it was an elbow sure, go to review and call it. But that play was pretty much the definition of a basketball play/fighting for post position.
ā¦what was Ayo doing
Dosunmu decision making leaves something to be desired at times
Ayo with some uhhh curious shot selection
I honestly think the guy pulled the arm and hand right into his face.
Did he seem tired at the end to anyone else? Few possessions in the last few minutes I thought they shouldāve taken the ball out of his hands.
I have thought the same thing this year. I felt like we had a good couple of years where refs were being really stingy with charge callsā¦had to be blatant and they would only call maybe one per game. This far it seems like theyāre going the other way. Frustratingā¦though I would start telling Faulds to work on his flopping now in case we are forced to play him with Davis out
Great observation. Another thing I have seen a ton of is does the coaching box even exist anymore? On the Ayo circus shot, Cuonzo was darn near standing on half court! See coaches standing at the midpoint of the scorers table all the time now. Also agree that the standard for an offensive foul needs to be a lot higher than it has been.
I tuned in just at the end so canāt/couldnāt really gauge
Argh. I missed that. Calipari was ALL over the court earlier today. Fully on the court, both feet in play. Itās absurd.
It really bums me out. It was such a positive change. If weāve moved back to minimal bad acting resulting in a charge not only does it restrict the play of the more talented players but it saddles them with foul trouble - which means we get to see the best players less. I do not like what Iāve seen so far this season.
That Illinois v Missouri box score is ugly to read.
To jump on the Iowa debate, Iām not totally buying them as a top five team because I think they will have trouble on the d end and I donāt believe they will continue to shoot this hot. That said they arenāt too far off imo mainly because Frederick is so good. Obviously Garza is a beast and Weiskamp is good/ bohannon is a great offensive player but Frederickās play really raises their ceiling to me. Heās very very impressive and imo the best second best player on the team.
I think he will end up the nba honestly, kid is the real deal. Every time I see him he is eating someone up and making them pay left and right from deep and even off the bounce at times. Heās also a decent defender compared to the other guys from what I can tell although I donāt watch him closely on that end.
I like Nunge too. Not a bad role player. I use to like the Younger Mccafrrey a lot in high school too but he hasnāt done much. I remember being real impressed with him back when I watched his highlights.
The one thing you have to say is I could see them making a serious run or getting bounced early, it really depends how hot they are shooting imo.
I know UNC isnāt playing that well but that was still a really nice shooting clinic. It has me worried for us a bit because we have been sloppy at times on the perimeter d imo. They could really light us up if we arenāt playing headsy ball.
