Big Ten Basketball 2020-21 Discussion (Part 1)

Not having Akins on the team is going to hurt Ypsi prep a lot. He is an outstanding player and he plays defense. Playmaker for others. Did I mention he can and does play defense? One knock on Akins game is he does not leak out enough. Cherry picking is what we used to call it. Lost art.

They are down more than Akins. Believe 2 others are no longer with the squad including Hannah.
Getting messy.

Add Wake Forest to the ACC big ten challenge and sub them on for NC st

They have a lot of good players. It will hurt their chances of playing well together as a team if more are out like you say. Hopefully they can figure it out. I suspect Akins will be fine but I hope none of the kids lives are disrupted too much by any of this.

How many players does that even leave them with?

Bates has never seemed like a guy that drew guys too him despite his immense talent level, actually quite the opposite.

Wake Forest has COVID issues. And they stink

The SEC is the only major conference that doesn’t start conference games until January, so it seems like they have the most schedule flexibility if we’re looking for a new team. I didn’t go through the A10/AAC/MWC.

I’m trying to think of something in life that Beilein would enjoy less.

I wonder – and no judgement here, but just wonder – if we should connect the dots here and conclude that Michigan is just not going to be as aggressive as other teams in getting on the court/field this year. Wisconsin moving fast to resked, for example, Michigan maybe not? We’ll see how it plays out. Maybe that jives with the idea that the football team is not ducking Ohio State but reacting with more caution to the pandemic.

postponed suggests NC State is willing to play in that small window on the 19th before their UNC game?

I am curious as to what is next for Akins and Hannah if he is also gone. I doubt the Mhsaa will grant them eligibility for this season.

Might have to go out of state. or Akins could hustle to enroll at MSU extremely early?

I think there is some truth to that. Michigan clearly did not want to travel away for non-con

Looks that way to me.

BQ also says Michigan will look to schedule a game on Wednesday or (more likely) Thursday with an in-state opponent or Toledo. They can’t do that and also play NC State game though, so they have to either play someone else this week without the NC State game being rescheduled or wait to play NC State later this season.
