Big Ten Basketball 2020-21 Discussion (Part 1)

If Indiana hired Tommy Amaker I think the AD would have to flee the country

These Ayo rumors are swirling like crazy right now. Latest one is that heā€™s out until the BTT.

I really hope that isnā€™t true.

First Race Thompson, now Ayo. Itā€™s officially Social Media Broken Nose Rumors season.

We definitely want to beat the Illini at their best!

Not to make light of the situation, and I hope Ayo is alright, but if he, somehow, doesnā€™t play in our game, the Illini fans will conjure up a conspiracy theory almost like no other. Michigan campaigned to move the game with Illinois back, not only to duck the Illini when we were first coming off the shutdown, but also so we could get our buddy Sissoko from that ā€œotherā€ Michigan scholl, State, to mug Ayo so he couldnā€™t play in our game!

why doesnā€™t Tommy Amakerā€™s name ever show up on any list?

His wife is an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School. There are only a couple of schools in the B1G that could compete with that; one of them is already saddled with a Coach K assistant, and another has already moved on from the Amaker Experience.

Me too. Hope Ayo is healthy and would prefer to beat them with him at his best.

That said, I bet those poor long-suffering Illinois fans could use a little cheering up right now, and maybe thereā€™s even a way to tamp down their anger at Michigan by showing empathy to our fellow basketball fans. After all, our starting PG is another player who keeps on taking shots to the head in games, and nobodyā€™s been ejected and no flagrants have been called. Itā€™s true that that didnā€™t happen in a game we actually lost, so our situations arenā€™t totally the same, but still I wonder if they might like it and feel better if we pointed out how lucky they are in that sense?

20210225_111146 It was beyond a ā€œhard foulā€ imo. War drill.

In all seriousness, if thatā€™s on the table for Izzo and Sparty against Illinois, we can imagine what they might have in store for Michigan.

Hereā€™s the play:

My prediction is that heā€™ll play against Michigan (with a mask, of course) but thereā€™s no incentive to reduce uncertainty as to his availability as gamesmanship for Michiganā€™s prep. Thatā€™s not a criticism at all, Iā€™m sure Michigan would do the same.

Guess itā€™s no wonder he missed the FTs. Pretty tough to concentrate when your face is throbbing.

This seems vaguely similar to what happened to Eli last year? Broke his nose vs Purdue, missed the game against Wisconsin 5 days later, returned 8 days later vs OSU.

I have no idea if that is a relevant timeline for Dosunmu though. IIRC a lot of Eliā€™s timeline came from waiting for a mask to get fitted to his face, so not sure if Illinois is able to get that done quicker. Plus we just saw the rumors about Thompson, and despite playing without a mask Saturday he played last night with one. So IU was able to get him fitted fairly quickly. Maybe the type of break/severity has something to do with it as well.

Also surprised that Dosunmu went back out on the court and played Tuesday after breaking his nose.

My concern is a scenario where we sweep Sparty and one of their guys ā€œtakes out his frustrationā€ late in the game.

That ad behind the play: Chocolate Milk - Protein to Repair, Rebuild, and Recover

Do they usually run that one when MSUā€™s defenders are inflicting bodily harm?

I think that NCAA couldā€™ve done more to protect the players, dangerous intentional fouls like this should be evaluated after the game for potential suspensions.

Sparty fans on Reddit are trying to defend it as just being a hard foul and that Sissoko had no possible option other than to bash straight down on Ayoā€™s face. Itā€™s pretty pathetic.

I have given up reasoning with Sparty fans long time ago, total waste of time.

Once Brad Davison graduates, he could start a consulting business advising programs on how to quietly get away with it.

This is one Brad would have to subcontract since heā€™s probably never jumped more than six inches off the ground.
