My thinking was that with Ayo being a lock Cockburn might get lost in the shuffle a bit with so many good players to reward. Numbers-wise it certainly would seem like Cockburn will be in there. Really hard year to cast a ballot that’s for sure.
I think you start with Ayo, Garza, Cockburn and TJD. Last spot is up for grabs between Carr, Liddell, Williams or a Michigan player probably. The fact that you can’t pick which Michigan player means it probably won’t be a Michigan player.
I think you have to find a spot for Liddell if OSU continues to play at this level. I wonder if TJD might get booted because Indiana stinks.
He’s averaging 19+11 on one of the three best teams in the league… I think it is a lock that Cockburn is on the 1st Team.
Refs punched out last season: 1
Refs punched out this season: 0. This overlooked statistic shows he’s regressed.
It’s gotta be Wagner, IMO, for his defense primarily. I was rewatching the first W game a few days ago. Just play after play after play he’s blowing up possessions.
Per 100 possessions Trevion’s counting stats are up there with Kofi. Not sure voters care about that though
My gripe with a lot of such awards is that the criteria are often not clear, at least to the public. Is there a statement about what voters are looking for? If it’s left ambiguous and then writers explain what they looked for, I guess that can make it interesting.
Wagner brings the best all-around game to the conversation and has the best pro-potential. But when you think about these teams they don’t often go in that direction unless you’ve built up a big narrative like Aaron Craft. Wagner’s lack of counting stats and lack of “highlight game” likely holds him back from the voters IMO.
Looking for Dickinson to cast doubt in the head-to-head!
Trevion’s a good player on a good team and I tip my cap to him. The fact is that I expect our buddy BQ to once again put a bunch of centers on his three-team all conference ballot again to the point of silliness (TJD, Kofi, HD, Williams, Garza, Robbins, “Liddell”, etc.).
I just think Williams will get left behind the other four centers this season since he doesn’t have the same level of recognition. Again…just a guess. I think he finishes 3rd team.
Yeah, to an extent I agree, but with Wagner you’re not asking them to vote him in for his defense only. He does every single thing you need him to. You have a guy who is one of a team’s primary scorers but also a leading rebounder and STILL an outright bully on defense? Especially since there aren’t a ton of other wings to pick from – unlike the C position. Maybe you pick 2 Cs and it’s not going to be strictly positional, but there’s going to be at least one wing and who better?
But if we are talking 3 all B1G teams, don’t they all deserve to be on there?
The issue is the best players in the league are a big 4/5 so if your going by position nothing really fits. Even as you go down the league all the best players are the same position…Nance at NW, Scott at Maryland, Harper and I think Myles Johnson is highly underrated for Rutgers. They are those teams best players as a 4/5.
The fact that Wagner is such a Swiss Army Knife but still hasn’t been the thoroughly dominant force in a game that I remember this season (dominant on D, yes) says something about Michigan’s talent at all positions. Think that maybe prevents a few guys from standing out more fully. Some other teams would be looking for Isaiah to have 25-30 point nights.
That’s a beauty of Michigan this season. Their attack are balanced and anyone can go off on any given night which makes it hard to key on certain players. Last year, the blueprint is to frustrate Zavier and muck up the PnR. Not the case this season.
HAHAHAHAHAHA
LOLOLOLOL. Kithier and Marble return!!!
I feel like the All-B1G teams will be sorted out by the plethora of big-time matches on the looming schedule. Kofi, TJD, Hunter etc. will have a chance to order themselves based on their head-to-head matchups a bit. That won’t (nor should it) negate their overall season performance…but being so late in the season will have an impact on the voters that actually watch those games.
Wow. That really strings for MSU, I liked his film, he was supposed to reclass and MSU desperately needs better bigs.
Yikes, what does their 5 rotation look like next year? Can Sissoko make a gigantic leap?
