Big Ten Basketball 2020-21 Discussion (Part 1)

Aaaaaand that Maryland three will probably do it.

Wow, Wiggins with a ā€œno no no YESā€ three on a totally broken possession.

Morsell with a fantastic reverse layup to probably seal it.

Weiskamp and Trevion Williams belong ahead of several guys on that list—Trice and Harper for sure, and based on play instead of rep, Carr as well.

Oh gotcha. Yeah Williams could be as high as second team. Wire Kano is another that should be considered.

Carr is carrying a big load this year with >28% usage while still having 111 O rating and 35% assist rate vs 13% TO rate. Those are impressive numbers for anybody. It is the 13th highest O rating in the country for anybody with that usage rate. Garza, Dosunmu, and Cam Thomas from LSU are the only major conference players ahead of him.

Feel like if I were picking 5 with no regards to trying to make an actual team work, it’d be Ayo, Garza, TJD, Livers, and Cockburn on the first team, and then Wagner, Liddell, Carr, Wieskamp, and Trevion on the second team.

Carr’s BT only efficiency rating after tonight is going to be not much better than 100 or dead average. I realize that he’s a very high usage guy, and that matters, but he’s usually an indifferent defender, and to me, an all-league player should do more than just be very high usage at a not very efficient pace.

Is Wire Kano the new Sauce Castillo? :joy:

(I assume you were trying to type Wieskamp and autocorrect did ya dirty.)

The same number of people have now called him that as have called him ā€œWeezy.ā€

His conference only O rating after tonight is down to 104. But if you want to knock players for defense, seems a bit odd to want to see someone like Wieskamp up there. Iowa is still a raging dumpster fire on that end of the court.

I don’t think highly of Minnesota but Carr ably carries a massive load despite being the primary focus of every opponent.

Do you have an iPhone? I’m unironically convinced that the software updates are programmed to make typing worse to get people to buy the newer, bigger phones.

An underrated tale in this is how incredibly bad Minnesota’s other guards are at creating shots. Complete and total incompetence in that area from practically all of them. They’re going to be a disaster without Carr.

Fun fact, Carr is the only 1, 2, or 3 on their roster to have an ORtg above 100.

I agree that Weiskamp sucks as a defender on a team which sucks on defense. He’s also a secondary usage guy, nota primary one like Carr. That said, he’s over 120 on offensive efficiency rating, and is pretty elite on that end. Reasonable minds can disagree of course, but if I had to pick one of the two to start a team, I would choose Weiskamp—Carr can win you games, but he can shoot you out too. JMO.

Would we have two on the all defensive first team? Franz and Eli? And I’d put Dickinson on second team.

It’s a classic floor raiser vs. ceiling raiser question. Carr can raise your floor. He’s solid in high usage. You can depend on him to lift a bad team up. Wieskamp could never do what he does. But Wieskamp is great as a second banana, and can raise the ceiling of a good team.

Carr has so many counting stats and headlines that he gets in over a second fiddle like Weiskamp. And your comment is exactly right. Likewise, Carr wouldn’t fit well on some teams that want him to have lower usage.

If you had to build an actual team with all five positions, I like the Michigan forwards with Carr, Ayo, and Garza. But the other bigs will steal at least one spot.

Nice work! I spent the better part of a minute trying to figure out who was meant there and didn’t come up with any ideas.
