They definitely seem to miss him, but then, they go through a February slide every year so…
I think if they were getting blown out I’d agree that it could just be tougher competition, but playing Illinois and Ohio State as close as they did without Fredrick makes me think he would have swung at least one of those games in their favor.
Either way, this isn’t a good look for Fran. And kenpom and torvik have them 5th and 6th in the country regardless so
Archie must have gotten the memo on his mask. I’ve seen him wear it more today than all season long
That’s possible but if I saw him wear it for 30 seconds that would still be true
Who said Iowa doesn’t play perimeter defense?
So I’ve been having a little fun looking into this. Of players who play at least 40% of minutes, looking only at conference play:
-
Of players with at least 30 2PA, Davison has the lowest 2P% in the nation (21.7%).
-
If you drop the minimum attempts to 15, there are two players tied for the lowest at 2/15 (13.3%), one of which is Nebraska’s Kobe Webster.
-
If you keep the minimum attempts at 15, but only look at high major teams, Webster is by himself at the lowest 2P%. Davison is right behind him at #2.
-
If you up the minimum to 20 2PA, but once again high major only, Davison is #1. The ACC on the whole actually dominates the top 10 (4 players including Wake Forest freshman and former target Carter Whitt). There are 7 more B1G players in the top 30, including Rocket Watts at #9, CJ Walker at #13, Josh Langford at #24, and Duane Washington at #29.
-
Speaking of Rocket: Watts is one of only two players in the country playing at least 40% of minutes with block and steal rates of 0 so far this season. The other is Kris Wooten of Elon, who has only played in 6 games this season. Watts pairs that 0 steal and block rate with a 91.1 ORTG. If you look at conference play only, Watts is one of 4 players who hits the mark (only high major player), and his ORTG drops to 76.2
Catching up after City/Liverpool, but I don’t think anyone says that missing Fredrick isn’t a real influence on Iowa. The struggle is that it is impossible to say to what degree and Iowa has started losing games once it has started playing tough games for the reason we all thought it would.
Michigan will face the same questions if it starts playing tough games and loses a couple in a row IMO.
In the last 2:30, Lander has gone 0/3 from 3 (including an air ball and a wedge shot), turned the ball over, and then left Bohannon wide open for a 3. Rough sequence.
Impressive to have an airballed three and a wedgie three on the same possession.
random Iowa thought
Fran has still never advanced past Friday of the Big Ten tourney, and has only even played on Friday 3 times.
He’s basically the anti-Beilein.
except in autobench technique. then they’re twins
Indiana is so remarkable because they force their way to so many shots at the rim and then miss so many shots at the rim.
Iowa’s getting shot volumed 57-43. Mostly offensive rebounds, looks like.
Tied up! Here we go.
Man get that foul out for the game. IU had a 3 on 1 and Mccaffery fouled them to keep them from getting anything
Archie’s boys up by two
That should be an intentional, two shots and the ball.
that Franklin 3 was wide open. that’s going to cost them the game
