Just what I was thinking. . . . Spartan Bob.
That may be my most vivid early sports memory. I can literally see the room where I was when that happened. Still hurts
The NCAA should have some kind of quality control in place making such a consistent disparity impossible. What an embarrassment.
Assists are one of the most subjective stats out there. Pretty sure scorekeeper bias is pretty normal for assists across the country. Donât think it really impacts much.
I canât believe this is real. MSUâs leading assist rate every year is literally manufactured by a rogue scorekeeper.
Was at a wedding. Many attendees were aware, I learned whilst in line for drinks.
Subjective and error prone, sure. But that graph would indicate there are systematic, correctable issues there. The implications might be minor in the grand scheme of things, but good stats and recordkeeping are important for their own sake and for developing an accurate picture of the (basketball) worldâsomething this blog is a testament to Iâd think!
- #4 Michigan (same)
- #7 OSU (up 6)
- #8 Iowa (down 1)
- #12 Illinois (up 7)
- #19 Wisconsin (down 5)
- #24 Purdue (up 14)
- Honorable Mention: Minnesota (#29), Toledo (#35), Rutgers (#43)
Izzo is a mega-fraudster. I am so happy we have Juwan as the JB replacement because it allows me to continue to view the UM/MSU rivalry in terms of an almost biblical battle between GOOD versus EVIL.
I really hate seeing OSU climb. They should be like 35th. Stop winning you jerks
- #4 Michigan (same)
- #8 Iowa (down 1)
- #9 OSU (up 6)
- #13 Illinois (up 9)
- #20 Wisconsin (down 7)
- Honorable Mention: Minnesota (#26), Purdue (#27), Toledo (#38), Rutgers (#40)
I just think it is pretty widely understood that that sort of bias exists. Over the last four years, Minnesota actually has a greater difference between home and road assist rate, FWIW. I have MSU as the 7th-greatest difference rate in the country.
George Mason is last (more road assist rate than home).
Sounds like George Mason needs to hire a new scorekeeper
I was 4th row, 50yd line with a MSU booster family-friendâŚwearing as obnoxious a maize sweatshirt as possible. After leaving the game:
- My truck had been towed
- During walk to friends dorm, I got jumped for said sweatshirt
- My very expensive glass-blown-pipe (for tobacoo obviously) was stolen later that night.
What a terrible, terrible day.

For those hoping that Kenneth Pomeroy Dot Com knew something that we didnâtâŚas suggested, looks like it was just a scheduling database goof:
I donât believe you. Kenneth would never fall prey to a glitch
What better way to get some extra clicks than to tantalize teams on Covid break with false hope?
Pomeroy, you devious one.
The Sparty 3 votes finally disappeared.
Interesting Mich men remain #4 without playing and the women get penalized 1 spot not playing.
Athletic posed a few questions to Big Ten beat writers about the rest of the B1G season Big Ten basketball: Michigan, Iowa, IU, coaching carousel â The Athletic
First question was âBuy or Sell: Michigan will win the regular season Big Ten Championshipâ
Brendan pretty much buys it, with caveats about the conference not making it clear how theyâre deciding the regular season champion if teams play uneven games.
Landis (OSU beat writer) sells, but only because Michigan might have to play 10 games in 30 days, so a few losses could come from the schedule crunch alone.
Dochterman (Iowa beat writer) is selling. But says he could see Michigan and Purdue splitting the regular season title because Purdue has by far the easiest remaining schedule. I think Painter is doing an incredible job this season, but Purdue is still very limited. Theyâre a few bounces from being sub .500 in conference play. I canât see them going 9-0 down the stretch. Michigan would have to go 8-3 to tie in that scenario. If anything, I think Illinois or Iowa are still the biggest threats. Both have a decently tough schedule remaining but they get a chance to gain games on Michigan by playing them.
Was just about to post that. The Purdue pick as sharing the title with us is weird considering Purdue is just a pretty good team and already has 4 losses. Doesnât really matter how easy their schedule is. He sees Purdue going undefeated or something? Unlikely. And if all it takes is 5 losses to get a share, you have to think at least one other team will share it as well.
Another thing I kind of noticed from this, was the last question where they are talking about a team that will take a step forward next year. 2 mentioned Purdue, which is the most obvious and probably correct choice. Then the OSU guy picked Rutgers. Which led me to look at their roster. The only way they are remotely good next year is if Geo and/or Jacob Young takes their 5th year. Those 2 are literally the only ball handlers on the team. Otherwise they have to get a grad transfer or theyâll be starting a true freshman and Paul Mulcahy at guard.
