About 15 minutes until the Marcus Carr show starts. The Day of the Gopher.
Bardo complaining about Minnesota shooting a wide open catch and shoot three.
Iâve come to realize that Bardo is a really weird guy. His takes are extremely confusing most of the time
Dude had an orgasm on air when Donsumo made a fast break layup last year. He was acting like it was some extreme rarity to go for a layup instead of a three, as if most fast break shots arenât attacking the rim. He was bringing it up and talking about it minutes after it happened.
The defense so far has been atrocious. Seemingly every player on both teams so far has just lost their man for no reason and left them alone on the court for an easy bucket.
In our game against Minnesota Kalscheur missed a semi-contested look early in the shot clock and out of nowhere Bardo starts ranting about how lucky Michigan was there and how automatic he is from deep.
Kalscheur, the guy whoâs been notoriously broken, shooting a combined 92/292 (31.5%) over the past two years.
Honestly, I think his problem is the opposite: Heâs utterly pedestrian.
That is about the last way I would describe the takes of Stephen Bardo
On cue: Bardo is now complaining about Gach wearing different colored shoes
I know that he wants to sound interesting, thinks he needs a schtick; he doesnât manage it.
He just says completely nonsensical stuff. Like Minnesota getting a fast break bucket in the first half is a turning point in the game.
Honestly have to be really happy right now if youâre Minnesota. Only down 2 despite shooting 36% from the field and 24% from 3 (with some good looks and shots that went in and out in there too). Especially since Iowaâs shooting 63% from 3 and Carr only has 5.
Plus you have 2 fouls on Connor McCaffery, Murray and Toussaint.
Minnesota 4-17 from 3 while Iowa is 5-8 and only down 2.
Also, is Garza just keep shooting way over his head from 3 all season? Cause thatâs really not fair.
Holding Iowa to only 8 3PA in a half is very impressive.
I find Bardo to be relaxing, particularly when compared with guys like Dakich, Crispin, and those more aggressive sounding types. I could do without Bardoâs fixation on hair, but every announcer has to have a gimmick that sets them apart.
I wish more had the Robbie Hummel âbe a good announcerâ gimmick.
I think relaxing is a reasonable description in contrast to the lunatics like Dakich, albeit strange for a sports announcer
I get what you mean. Itâs far easier to just ignore what Bardo is saying. When Dakich speaks mute is the only option because what he says is so loud and dumb and annoying that it cannot be ignored.
Minnesota is falling apart now. Iowa continues to score with relative ease and Minnesota canât score against Iowaâs zone
IMO the gold standard is Bill Raftery. Big loud gimmick but knowledgeable. The right blend of communicating high-level strategy with entertainment value.
