Trayce and Cockburn are the frontrunners.
Yeah. It’s gonna be Cockburn I think without much question.
Yes I knew we forgot a big one (pun not intended but whatever). Yeah he’d probably be the club leader.
BUT, there’s a lot of basketball left to be played and if Franz goes on a run and plays like he did Sunday…boy those other guys would have to be good the rest of the way to beat him out for the award!
I’m really amused that the Franz Wagner that was in my head when he committed, and the Franz Wagner that takes the floor for Michigan have almost literally nothing in common (maaayyyybe the close out attacking?).
I knew he was a good shooter. Nope!
I figured he’d struggle in more athleticism-driven things like finishing. He’s actually quite good!
I figured he’d struggle on defense. Probably his strongest suit so far!
Michigan’s season isn’t anything close to what it is without Franz, but I think Kofi and Trayce are way ahead statistically as far as what would matter for B10 FOTY.
Perhaps you’re right. We’ll see. I know both Kofi and Trayce are outstanding players, as is Franz.
Uhhh, he is a good shooter. Has he shot well so far this year? Nope, not really, but I’m just wondering if folks have forgotten that he did have a broken wrist, and that takes a while to recover from. Then there’s the lack of confidence that can come from missing shots as the result of a hand, wrist and forearm that have been recovering from being in a cast for five or six weeks. Oh, and, yes, he’s also a freshman, what 3000 miles from home. He will shoot it well. He is a good shooter who, understandably, has struggled. Huge upside to this young man’s game.
And, yes, I know you agree with that. That’s why I “liked” your comment! I think you, too, expect his shot to come around, and the rest of his game is really very good. Again, as I’ve said elsewhere, lanky 6’9 kid, not particularly strong…yet, but he is putting it on the floor and taking it to the hole with some authority, and DEFENDING. Yep, gonna be a good one!
I am not in the camp that he is a good shooter… yet. His form needs some work especially if he is going to be able to rise up when closely guarded or get it off in the face of a closing defender.
Do I think he can make those changes absolutely, but I expect to see some ups and downs while he figures it out.
I was wondering about the wrist but also he might be rocking his torso a bit on his windup instead of rising up straight He did on one of his misses yesterday, not sure of that’s a part of his form.
Fair enough.
I think there’s a lot of overreaction to a relatively small sample size of shots.
I think Franz is a good shooter that hasn’t shot well as @silverblue mentioned. Is he the shooter that was advertised to us? Probably not. But unless he just all of the sudden regressed from previous years, you have to take into account his percentages in Europe as well.
I feel like saying Franz is not a good shooter is like saying “Simpson is a turnover machine” or “Teske is a bad defender.” All things that you would say if you’d only watched games this year.
I think Illinois has a very good chance of covering 6.5 tomorrow night @ Penn State
Is Ayo playing?
He has now taken over 100 - 3 pointers. I don’t think that is a small sample size so we obviously see that differently. Do I think he will get better… I do but as mentioned before it may come by way of changing his motion. Which he will need to excel at the next level.
A full college season is still too small of a sample size.
Good sign for a bad situation that looked terrible
Really cool broadcast decision by Fox Sports 1. Underwood and Chambers are mic’d up and they just showed an entire session of Underwood complaining to the ref and then a full timeout huddle with parts from both coaches instead of a commercial break. It says “live all access” at the bottom so I think the whole game is gonna be like this. 200x better than ESPN’s attempt at changing things up with their floor camera broadcast from the OSU game a couple years back. Announcers are present during gameplay, but not timeouts it looks like. Coach’s are still turned on during play.
