Loveee Bilas calling that out. Been yelling at my TV because of Winston’s stiff-arm for going on 4 years now
Yep. Almost a necessity to go 2-1 in these 8 team tournaments. 1-2 or worse is a disaster for your resume.
I’m not going to overreact too much and call MSU overrated, though I understand that sentiment from some. That game met the upset recipe (Cassius foul trouble, MSU missing open 3s, and VT making tough 3s.)
Bottom line is that if Cassius Winston plays HIS average game, they’ll win most games. He’s going through a lot right now, but he’ll find his groove and the surrounding cast will improve. Because he is elite, MSU will often be considered elite this season especially relative to the other 2019 teams.
One of the larger-view concerns is that the Big Ten has looked pretty subpar. That ultimately dings resume building for Blue. Then again, just “win the game” and the seeds will take care of themselves.
I saw good shooters on VT getting open 3s. I agree that they will mostly play better, but I wonder how MSU is going to fix that problem.
Winston played really poorly and Henry stepped up. Gotta hope Henry doesnt hit that gear consistently, because Winston isnt going to have many bad games and right now that seems like the only way they are going to lose games
I just do not understand how replays take so long in basketball. Pritzl obviously elbowed the Richmond player intentionally and unnecessarily. Took me all of 5 seconds to see that. For NCAA officials, it required a 4 minute review.
Ready for the tuesday morning pod
Yeah that was definitely an issue, and it wasn’t a secret that VT was gonna try and get looks outside. Maybe a result of not wanting to play small as suggested above? I’m not saying MSU was playing great defense by any means…just that the difference in the outcome quite literally was one or two makes/misses. My opinion on MSU won’t be swayed much by the way this game shook out. (Turnovers, on the other hand, could sway my opinion of them if that continues)
Brad Davison just got warned for a flop. Came a couple flops too late but
Looks like the win vaulted Va Tech to 30 on KenPom…anyone know what it was prior to the game?
MSU and OSU are both too 15ish teams.
Not top 5 in any way.
They were #41 coming in.
I’m still in shock that Izzo had Foster Loyer in practice for an entire season and didn’t recruit another PG behind Cash for this season. And no I don’t count Rocket Watts as a point guard. If god forbid Cash got hurt or missed a few games, that team goes from title contender to completely mediocre because of the lack of depth there
Next year could be real rough from a guard perspective. If Watts does not develop as expected, they’re in a world of trouble.
It’s against NCAA rules to do anything fast. The violations must be evaluated and then sent to congress who then sends the decision to the legal team before we get written approval from communications.
On the FS1 show they were blaming poor three point shooting for Sparty’s loss.
Ummmm they were 8-23. Last time I check that was almost 35%. On what planet is that bad three point shooting? Time to come up with another narrative.
I figured there would be fallout from the hoops gods when JP and Drey Green played on the same team.
Seemed like the issue was turnovers and defense to me. MSU teams typically commit a decent amount of turnovers, but they balance it by forcing the other team to do the same. VT took care of the ball. And luckily they did because they gave up way too many oboards
