Big Ten Basketball 2019-20 Discussion

Sometimes, the underdog that’s in control of a game just finds a way to lose at the end. Same thing happened with Toledo - Notre Dame the other night. It’s sad to watch, as you just know it’s coming.

Yale’s pretty good even after losing their star from last year.

Jack Nunge Suffers Torn ACL

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa men’s basketball sophomore Jack Nunge suffered a season-ending torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of his right knee in Sunday’s home game versus Cal Poly. The announcement came Monday by head coach Fran McCaffery .

The injury occurred late in the first half as Nunge was driving to the basket.

“All of us feel for Jack,” said McCaffery. “This is an unfortunate setback for a young man who spent countless hours in the gym and weight room last year preparing for this season. Jack has the full support of his teammates and coaches during his recovery.”

Nunge (6-foot-11, 245 pounds) started Iowa’s first five games, averaging six points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists. The native of Newburgh, Indiana, redshirted last season.

Michigan at 26 in CBS “Top 25 and 1”. Penn State at 25. :face_with_monocle:

Penn State went and won at Georgetown, who apparently might be decent, so I wouldn’t complain about ranking them.

No complaints. Only mild surprise.

2 thoughts on this MSU game:

  1. Kithier will be aggressively mediocre until he becomes a double double guy as a senior randomly. In a long tradition of MSU bigs
  2. Is Winston ever not in foul trouble??? What is going on with that?

Winston is not the fleetest of foot. That probably has something to do with it.

My thought: Foster Loyer, lololololo

So is MSU just not as good as we thought? They have not impressed me this year so far.

I think it’s just a weak year for college basketball. They might be a top 5 team with an elite defense and only one player who can play offense, just because there aren’t any other amazing teams hanging around.

My first 3 thoughts:

  1. Without Cassius on the floor, they are bubble material.

  2. To quote BQ from the preseason, Rocket Watts is “a dude”. If/when he becomes a focal point, they’ll hit another level

  3. If Tom Izzo is going to coach in a polo shirt, ffs tuck it in. Looks awkward lol

I’m not gonna get too down on MSU. All it takes is one or two players outside of Winston and Tillman to get it together and their ceiling goes way up.

I’m sure they will be ranked high all year and probably win the Big Ten, but I’m just saying… this was the consensus #1 team preseason. They had almost all of the votes. This doesn’t look like a clear #1 team. They will lose some games in the Big Ten. Before the season I thought they might go like 18-2 in the league but I think they will lose at least 4-5 now. Also if you asked me preseason I would’ve said no way Michigan beats them but I think Michigan will have a shot. I’m not judging them on a scale of whether they are really good or not. Consensus #1s are judged on an elite scale and this team isn’t elite.

The problem is that I’m not really sure what team has looked good this year?

Man, izzo is one unlikable human.

But it was always consensus #1 because there was pretty much no one else to put there. 4-5 losses in a season is still not bad for a consensus #1 team.

I think I picked them to win the national title before the season. But that’s pretty much based on my massive respect for Winston and Tillman and the potential of others. Not that I think they are vastly superior to everyone else.

4-5 losses in conference will likely mean 7-8 overall. Not sure many people would have pegged them for that if they answer honestly. I do agree that nobody looks that good this year though.

Izzo tried to go big with Marble and Tillman
