Maybe it will be Martelli and Miller. I would certainly prefer Miller to Eisley. This is also an example of why I want Martelli, he knows everyone on the eastern seaboard.
Wouldn’t surprise me if Martelli is a “special assistant to the head coach” type of thing.
Anyone believe the Martelli news?
It just looks like a few tweets from pretty random accounts and they’ve been out there for a few hours without getting picked up by anyone connected to Michigan or Philly.
What were Martelli’s teams best known for?
This intrigues me
If Martelli is in, my guess is as a legit assistant not an asst-to-HC.
@romeowolv if I recall correctly, you were arguing against volume 3pt teams earlier right? You would be all in on Mike Miller.
What offense did Miller run en route to winning g-league COY this yr?? Seems the more important question.
Running an offense someone who’s won 11 nba titles tells you to run is not a demerit, nor is getting hired by such a coach.
I’m not arguing against it. I just don’t think you need it to have a good offense.
Martelli gave a press conference after getting fired and said “I will coach again.”
The hoop dirt guy is usually plugged in
I don’t have much interest in running John Wooden’s offense either
I don’t know his work. When he makes something that looks like a suggestion, is that his way of passing along news? I could see it either way.
“Phil Martelli would be a great addition to Juwan Howard’s staff at Michigan…”
03-04 squad that featured Jameer Nelson and Delonte West, Final Four/Champion favorites. Lost to oSu in the Elite Eight I believe.
Does that make him a “guards” guy, or was that more just “luck”?
Martelli has been the head coach at St. Joe’s for the last quarter century. He’s the veteran coach guy.
Of course (that’s why I said “a” guards guy, not “the” guards guy). But does he have a sub-specialty, like Juwan’s the head coach but we think he’ll focus on big men and defense to a larger extent?
Is that a report or just an echo of info?
Howard, Eisley, Miller… these guys all have tremendous NBA backgrounds (i.e. selling points to recruits). TRE-MENDOUS. Saddi’s got experience here. Martelli would add a lot of knowledge.
You think they’d ^ have trouble recruiting and developing players as a group??
We just said goodbye to our best head coach of all time, arguably. Who, stars-wise, was probably also our worst recruiting coach of all-time.
I hear a lot about the “wanting AAU/shoe connections”, “Mike Miller-types”, “one-and-done getters,” etc. Hell, I say that stuff too. But you can’t cheat at Michigan. You will get caught. You can’t be Duke, Kentucky, Memphis, Zona, UNC, Kansas, Louisville, OSU… even MSU. That Zion stuff that just came out after the tournament about Duke… it wasn’t even a two-day story. Same story here is a career-ender.
The Nova/UVA model is our model. Recruit excellent, developable 2-4 yr players. Do it clean. Get a McD’s All American every yr. Maybe a couple. But you gotta do it clean.
