Reading between the lines, this is the experienced head coach BQ knew of that he couldn’t report, I imagine.
Agreed. I’m fine with Miller, but Martelli is a no brainer IMO.
He’s an east coast, Italian firecracker who doesn’t give a rats ass about tradition or what anyone thinks about him who will be representing buttoned-up, pressed blazer Michigan on national television. Will be fun!
Got it, but also important to remember he would be signing up for an assistant job. Big difference from being a long standing established head coach, as he was for many years at St. Joes. Still think it will be interesting though.
Doubt he gets enough airtime for anyone at UM to notice.
I wonder what was going on in his program?
JB: Out of respect for Phil, I’m not going to tell you everything I saw. I can tell you I was extraordinarily concerned about the program on and off the court.
Bittersweet. I like Dre.
Absolutely sucks for him, word was holtmann made a big run this spring at him and he turned it down.
Definitely feel for Coach Haynes. Yak has a fall back at Texas, Saddi gets to stay, and Deandre’s left with most likely a step down in program prestige and pay that he doesn’t deserve.
Dylan, any thoughts on how JH’s timeline compares to other head coach hires in terms of getting an assistant coaching staff in place? I’m a little surprised it’s not done yet. Doesn’t the 2020 evaluation period start soon?
best wishes to deAndre
Sucks seeing anyone lose their job. Hope he can find a good situation soon.
Might have to step down to a smaller program for a year, but I’m sure JB will give him a leg up when a major conference assistant job comes up next season. The players seemed to like working with him and I haven’t heard a negative against him.
Here was John Beilein’s timeline;
April 3 - Hired
April 4 - Press Conference
April 9 - Retains Mike Jackson
May 14 - Hires Jerry Dunn (asst at WVU)
May 23 - Hires John Mahoney (DOBO at WVU)
That’s helpful, thank you.
Can’t wait till the press conference!
Welp, looks like we just caused Dylan to do a bunch of work he probably wasn’t expecting when he opened up his website this morning! Sorry!
Not what I expected to see after driving back to Ann Arbor this morning. Will be interested to see if any more news breaks on the assistant front today.
@MKR: I don’t think the assistant search has been particularly slow. We are at the intro press conference and Howard seems very close to having a staff together. That’s pretty damn quick.
looks around
I feel bad for Dylan…
