A lineup possibility

What would you think of this:
LeVert
Irvin
Stauskas
Robinson
McGary

They might not start or anything like that but that’s a ton of length and versatility on the floor at one time. Figure out where they fit later. Could that group rebound well enough? Defensively it could be one of Michigan’s best groups in a long time.

I just listened to the WTKA interview myself. I will say that the prospect of defense with that would be very interesting/appealing. Would also be curious how a 1-3-1 would work in that situation. So much length would really reduce the passing lanes. Don’t know who you’d get to run baseline though, need someone extremely quick.

More generally, If that is a functional lineup (read: can score points) then it would be interesting to just try going “full big” against some teams and see what happens.

Today’s announcement by the asst coaches that LeVert and Stauskas may share the backcourt at times is just an indicator of the incredible flexibility this roster will have. The lineup you postulate would be long and dynamic and cause incredible match up problems. I think we’re going to see a lot of combinations on the floor, and that will help counter teams with different types of strengths.

I doubt this works. I just don’t think Levert could have possibly made the jump to man the 1 spot after what I saw last year. I expect him to be one of our better players going into his junior year alas Oladipo.

It would indeed be a large jump to make, so we will have to see. However, I wouldn’t envision his role to be a PG like Walton/Albrecht. I would think it would align closer to Stu Douglass’s time at the point. While that’s not great for a starting lineup, it’s a tantalizing option for short periods of time.

Looking at the lineup, I would initially be inclined to say we need someone to create penetration, but I first need exposure to Stauskus’ improved strength and/or Caris improved ballhandling and strength to pass judgment.

How about an all-6’6" lineup with Bielfeldt instead of McGary? Might confuse the opponents.

Think it has a lot of potential. This team has a real chance to create a lot of offense off from its D.Remember how good we looked last year in the tourney when teams tried to push the pace? I have always liked Caris, interested to see how his game has grown.

Or what if we get Bolden in '14:
Chatman - 6-7ish (maybe pushing 6-8 if his dad is right)
Wilson - 6-9 (I know, it’s a stretch)
Bolden - 6-9
Donnal - 6-9
Horford - 6-9

This lineup would be asking for trouble against pretty much any team that is relatively competitive

Agreed. I was tempted to propose a 2015 lineup of Zimmerman, Stone, Donnal, Bolden, and Wilson to slippery slope this concept further. I’ll just be happy to have Media Days this week and then first Exhibition a week from today(!).

This is only an exhibition. This is not a competition. Please, no wagering.

You lost me here my friend, didn’t see any reference to an exhibition or competition for that matter.

In any event, that is a bad lineup any way you cut it, simple as that.

I Love it and hope to see quite a bit of it! Go Blue!!

I like this one as well, I could see Wilson playing Sg in the Future but I would insert Zak Irvin at the Sg and Wilson at the Sf , Bolden or Donnal at the Pf, whichever one is the better player, with Horford at the C position. Lets try many different lineups to create a mismatch against opponents in our favor. Go Blue!!

Just to be clear, I’m with MattD on this one - I don’t think it is a viable lineup…just an example of an even longer lineup. Hence my David Letterman reference.
