2024 Olympic Basketball

By his “career”, you mean the years where he would have been a junior and senior in college? What was the trajectory from year 1 to year 2? What do we expect going forward?

How does Franz compare to his draft class?

Pretty well. Still not sure I would take him over Cade or Barnes. Arguably Sengun is the best of that group.

I think Mobley is probably generally more valuable than Franz too, due to defense

The whole thing we started with is “Franz is just that good and that’s why Germany is rocking France”. My retort was “that doesn’t seem like the best explanation given how good Franz is in the NBA and the rest of the context of these two teams”.

What he will be isn’t relevant. What is relevant is exactly how good he is now. Guys that are that good now usually have stats that suggest they’re very good and cause commentators to say “wow you’re very good”. He’s a bit above NBA average. That’s great for his age.

You also said he’s an average nba player. I’m not suggesting you extrapolate multiple years, but he’s presumably better now than he was during his second season, which is better than his first season.

I said he’s currently a bit above average. His TS% was a tick below league average. His BPM went from 0 to 1. Same w his DARKO. There wasn’t some huge leap this year. He had some very significant struggles in the playoffs that didn’t scream “guy in the middle of making an enormous leap”.

30 points to PR in the first quarter!

Tremont Waters is a solid PG

Aleem Ford looks fantastic. Wonder where he played ball.

Matchups will be Germany-Greece, Canada-France, Serbia-Australia, US-Brazil.

Dunno SF matchups except Germany and US will be on opposite ends of the bracket

Not to jinx it but happy to get a freebie. That Brazil team has nada. Not sure they’re clearly better than South Sudan.

I guess they can get up some 3s and they play their best guys a ton?

Yeah I think SSD is better than Brazil. Or very comparable. And they’re not really the type of team that should scare us. They don’t shoot an outlier amount of 3s, their best player is a good Euroleague PF.

and looks like SSD is giving Serbia a game right now. Might be a tough one, Serbia doesn’t have much to play for while everything is on the line for SSD

Don’t think these are locked in yet. South Sudan would advance over Greece in a 3rd place spot if they lose by 1. Or if they win then they’re second in group C, and Serbia will advance over Greece assuming they don’t lose by 24 or more. And then the eight teams are split into four groups of two and there is a draw to determine the quarterfinals.

Correct. I was assuming a Serbia win by more than 1. Which was probably hasty but is still likely

but as for the draw I was correct in how those would go as they split them into pods of 2 and “draw” but you can’t draw a team from your group so it draws itself in many ways

If SSD wins then Germany will play Serbia and the rest would be a bit up in the air depending on how much they win by

“A bit above average?” I’m trying to figure out the 100-200 NBA players who are better than Franz Wagner. Perhaps you could help me out.

The list of every player better than Franz, with a player comp for each, is due by midnight tomorrow.

I think you’re confusing average for median. I’ve posted DARKO links and screenshots like once a day for three years so I imagine you can figure out how to make that list yourself
