2022 NCAA Tournament Open Thread

Announcers always push the “You don’t need a 3” line. I thought taking a 3 there made complete sense.

Just don’t think it’s that big of a deal and not a big enough “mistake” for a commentator to repeatedly harp on.

Fair. I think it was a build up of some of the “questionable” decisions Penny made earlier in the game

No chance Nembhard was missing. Needed to force someone else to get it. I liked going for the 10 seconds, but I would have fouled that other guy who had the ball.

It must now be a requirement in every color commentator’s contract that, during the last minute of any close game, they must continually pontificate about how the trailing team does not need a 3. Bardo was a pioneer in the field as it turns out, I guess.

I think some people just decided Penny is a bad coach and judge every decision accordingly.

What did he show tonight that would prove otherwise?

I tend to agree with this. I don’t need the color commentary to scrutinize his every move.

Timme is such a great college player. 25 & 14.

And Gonzaga retakes the lead for most NCAA Tournament victories over the last 10 years.

Certainly hope it’s either Gonzaga or TT out of that region. TT put a hurt on us that one year, but they really helped us get that final bye. I appreciate their efforts on our behalf.

I didn’t see anything that made me think he was doing a bad job either. People act like every decision is either 0% correct or 100% correct when it’s usually closer to 50% (like whether to use a timeout or save it since it’s a tight game.)

Wait, we were tied with them??? I thought they were in first and we were second but solidly behind them

And people here were rooting for them?

Yeah, by my count, Michigan had 21 wins in the previous 9 years, and Gonzaga had 24. I mean, there’s a year in there where Michigan didn’t even make the tournament.

That was closer to what I was intuitively spitballing, guess there is a way to find out

OK, so this is nasty. If Houston beats Illinois, then Houston fans are going to take over San Antonio. But if Illinois beats Houston, then Illinois wins.

I’m truly conflicted.

BTW – Michigan is likely to be the early game if Arizona wins.

I’d choose playing Houston @ Houston over Illinois or Arizona in SA

I suppose so. Houston fans are going to root heavily against Michigan in the OSU or Nova game, though. Something about a Man Bun guy and an overabundance of swag…

(ETA: On a selfish note, I suspect the tickets will cost me more if I’m competing with Houston oil money. )

Maybe that Man-bun guy’s little brother would be there and we could make him cry again. That would be fun.
