I’m 98% sure Gonzaga entered the tournament 1 win ahead of us. I saw a graphic yesterday that showed it. We’ve tied them twice in the tourney and they later retake the lead.
I swear I saw a stat that showed Michigan 1 behind. I guess I could be wrong. My eyes are lying to me.
Edit: yeah you are right I just looked it up too. Sorry to deceive the board lol. Still should have been rooting against Gonzaga so Michigan could pass them when they win the title
Maybe men’s and women’s combined? Although I think Gonzaga has a decent women’s team, and Michigan hasn’t had tournament success until very recently.
This is awesome!
Over the last 5 years they are tied at least (12-12)
What is the early game in this case? 12? 2? 4?
Pretty sure the sweet 16 is one game at 6-7 et and then next at 9-9:30
All games after tomorrow are night games. Weeknight early ones are like 7:10/7:30
The weekend games may be mid-afternoon, IIRC. But one step at a time.
You’re 100% correct. The early games Thursday will probably be 7:15 PM ET (San Antonio) and 7:45 PM ET (San Francisco). The late games will be 25 minutes after the conclusion of the early games, so usually just before 10 PM and just after 10 PM. We should get a full schedule tomorrow evening.
TBS has the two Saturday Elite 8 games at 6:15 and 8:45 PM ET. It’s likely that San Antonio would be the first of the two games but it could change depending on who’s playing.
Sunday is on CBS at 2:15 and 4:45 PM.
Not talking feelings here, just matchups - do we want Nova or OSU to win today? Nova runs a six-man rotation and has no one taller than 6-8 but shoots (and makes) a ton of threes. We’re all familiar with how we match up with OSU.
Also, Jay Wright is a much more proven tournament coach than Holtmann.
I’d rather be playing the Buckeyes Thursday night.
Yeah, want no part of Wright in the tourney. Holtmann on the other hand cannot wait to lose, an itch he’ll scratch in just a few hours.
Logic says we should want to play OSU. But I do not like playing conference teams in the tourney. It’s gone well for us before (OSU in 92, Illinois in 89), but also bad (Indiana 76). Those results have nothing to with the current team, but the downside of playing a rival in the Sweet 16 is greater than the downside of playing a quality team like Nova. At least in terms of how we’d feel about the season
Emotions aside it has to be OSU. That said, I’m an emotional person and don’t think I could stomach losing to OSU in a sweet 16. I won’t mind if Villanova wins today.
Villanova is the superior team and it’s not like we match up poorly with osu. Osu all the way. Though I think nova is beatable
Thing is we can take potentially nothing from that last OSU matchup. That game featured no Hunter and Kyle Young with Jones being featured and he would seem to be questionable at best. Especially if OSU wins today, lots of credit will be due to Young and I think he is an important piece for them.
Thing that scares me is with Liddell and Branham, OSU has the 2 best players on the court. Will our doubling strategy work so well again? Plus big picture if OSU falls on their face there are legit questions about Holtmann in March and I don’t mind that because I think he is a really good coach.
Another thing to consider about the first OSU matchup was how gassed Michigan was and how many open looks were missed. It’s probably OSU who we want but personally I’d love to beat Nova because I live nearby and cannot stand the school.
And looking ahead, it seems like there is a decent chance that moving forward, they may not be able to avoid playing Kobe as a 3rd guard. Hopefully they can figure out a way to make him play less stinky. If there was ever a good week for the light to go on.
Also, every single player Nova puts on the court is gonna be launching 3s. Could easily be a game where we get another Dischon Thomas performance and lose that way.
Yeah think we’d get shredded defensively. They’ll shoot as many 3s as CSU did except that’s what they want to do
