2022 NCAA Tournament Open Thread

Shaka is another one who just same thing, different year.

When Marquette fans were getting excited over the regular season wins, I was like, you know how this ends, right?

And the crazy thing is that he seemed like a good tourney coach before then. He had gone to the Final Four and won the CBI. We broke him.

You know who else has that reputation, despite an equivalent one Final Four appearance (unless I missed one?)

Rick Barnes.

Yeah I would never say Fran does less with more. Thats typically an insult you would lodge against a coach who recruits at a high level and flames out. Fran finds great offensive players and teaches them no defense so they perform kinda like you would expect: very good offense mostly, poor defense, and in a single elimination tournament, its hard to win like that.

They did look pretty darn good, though :grimacing:

Yeah, Gonzaga went on a run as soon as I tuned in. Sorry.

Longwood is KenPom #147. Michigan hasn’t played a team ranked that low since Southern Utah, whom they beat by 37.

Not your fault Georgia State is just running out of bodies

He has at least won games outside of the round of 64 (13 times in fact). So yeah, only 1 final four, but a couple elite 8s and sweet 16s. Still not great for the amount of times he has been in the tourney, but nowhere near as pitiful as Shaka.

Their defense didn’t even do them in this time, though, right? I wondered if this team might be different, because they played some really decent D down the stretch. I honestly think Fran is way too tightly wound and his teams choke. It just keeps happening.

Georgia State looking like a 16 seed now. Too bad was pulling for an epic upset

I like Gonzaga. Loved them since the Dickau days. Only team I always root for besides Michigan

So, if you’re a member of that UMBC team — do you root for #1 seeds for the rest of your life, so that you’ll always be the “1” in the “#16 seeds are 1-180 against #1 seeds” stat that they like to roll out?

Georgia St. had no chance with their big guy getting hurt and Gonzaga size and foul disparity. Fun while it lasted.

Yeah definitely seems this year was a bit different since their offense turned into a stinky diaper today. They still couldnt get the amount of stops they needed to pull away, something you would expect a high seed to do.

Hello my name is Shaka Smart, please shake my hand as I fill my diaper in a 30 point loss.

I mean, they scared teams before Beilein got a hold of them. Then we just mercilessly destroyed them. Exposed all their weaknesses and just left a grease spot where once there was a team. That wasn’t your run of the mill tournament loss.

GSU has panicked. The dream is over.

yeah the Havoc defense died after that game. Turned from a somewhat gimmick into an all out joke and there is a reason he doesnt coach it anymore.

I’m in my feels for Georgia State. They deserve a more dignified score.
