I like the cut of your jib

Your probably correct. The thing that is scary for Curbelo is that sometimes a concussion can affect your behavior/play for a long time. Hope for his sake, and DJ’s sake, they can recover to :100: percent.

They needed more shooting. And Houston was playing so far off Curbelo (and to a lesser extent Hawkins and Williams.)

Illinois has some potential in 2022-23, their freshmen wings look promising. But if Curbelo doesn’t improve, then it’s hard to see them getting right back to top 1/3rd of the conference

Collin Gillespie will never not look like Andrew Dakich to me

When you’re shooting 10-17 and your opponent 7-19, you should be up more than this.

Turnovers are keeping OSU at bay and Nova is not known for that this year

It’s hard to tell. Cockburn is so vital to what they do. 4% higher usage rate than even Dickinson. It’s difficult for me to imagine them near the top when you remove him and Frazier even if the current freshmen take a step.

My tv must be broken – it looked like they called a foul on EJ Liddell, but that obviously can’t be right.

It’s cool seeing a packed house for a round of 32 game.

Sometimes I hate that I’m supposed to hate Liddell because when he’s playing well he’s incredibly fun to watch.

Pittsburgh is basically halfway between Columbus and Philadelphia. (which, upon reflection, isn’t news to anybody   )

The Kansas / Seton Hall game in Wichita in 2018 – immediately before the Michigan / Houston game – was packed also. The Seton Hall fans all left, but most of the Kansas fans stuck around to see a classic.

Sadly, he made a terrible decision when he was 17 – but, who hasn’t?

He deserves better than to be a Buckeye.

Yeah assuming Kofi goes pro, no one on their team is proven in any regard. Obviously both freshmen looked good today, but there’s a reason they both played less than 20% of minutes on the season. It’s also a lot different playing as the 1st/2nd/3rd option vs 4th and 5th behind Kofi and a string of great shooters.

I’m sure Illinois will add through the portal, but as of now they’re poised for a massive step back next year.

I could see Curbelo having success with Hawkins at the five and a less clogged paint.

Crowd seems pretty dead for a packed house. Maybe that’s just TV, I don’t know.

I mean, I was sure Cockburn was leaving last year, too. What reason does he have to leave? He has two years’ worth of unfinished business, no pro prospects, will be the biggest star on the team, and already actively chose to come back last year over going to Kentucky.

I disagree with this take (not vehemently, though.)

It feels a little bit like saying early season DeVante Jones needed a different set of coaches. For DeVante, it wasn’t really about him playing ‘his game’ like he talked about early, but learning what he could from his coaches, and then integrating what he learned into his game. (What a transformation too!)

It feels like Curbelo was going to be a featured player early in the season, and would have had a chance to integrate what he learned in the off-season into his game. But then got hurt.

Illinois had to move forward, and form their identity without Curbelo. By the time Curbelo returned, he wasn’t quite the main guy we probably expected coming into the season. (Plus, who knows how much the concussion really affected him.)

That all being said, you might be right about another coach. It feels like to me, though, that a switch like that might be more likely to result in another season of Curbelo being Curbelo, rather than him growing into the player he has the potential to be.

If it is Nova we’re going to have to dominate on the boards. OSU is letting them push them around.

Both these teams are beatable. Ohio is who we thought they were. Villanova we need to cut down the fouls and run them off the 3point line
