2022 NCAA Tournament Open Thread

So many Big Ten teams are lifeless offensively. Not that I’m complaining

It would be objectively hysterical if we’re the only B1G team out of the round of 32 again.

(Yes, I used “objectively” correctly).

I think it was mentioned earlier on this thread, maybe – they’re philosophically five out, but the vast majority of their shots are taken by their three guards / wings. Now, maybe if they play off of the four and the five entirely, they’ll suddenly go 7/10 from three, but I think it’s a risk Michigan could take.

Seeing how Nova’s small but quick frontcourt guys are preventing Liddell and Key from getting the ball in a decent position in the post has me worried that they could do the same to Hunter and Moussa.

If we play Villanova this will be the first time in a while I’ll truly feel Juwan won’t be the better or even leveled coach. And that’s not a knock on Juwan just super credit to Jay Wright

I mean at the end of the day it will be a tough matchup. Nova is clearly the better team though looks like they’re 12 on Kenpom.

Villanova guys aren’t getting by OSU players though

We’ll struggle offensively against Villanova, I fear.

The interesting thing is Villanova averages about 9 threes a game so they can have bad shooting nights.

Also allow 7 threes by opponents. If we can lob it to Hunter or get it to Hunter somehow some way we could have success.

Andre Curbelo finished this year with an 82 ORTG on 32 USG, shooting 17% from 3, 37% from 2, a lower assist rate than last year and a higher TO rate.

Ya love to see it

As usual Charles messed up the quote attributed to Dizzy Dean. “It ain’t bragging if you can do it.”

Imagine spending all year being yelled at by a guy nearly as purple-faced as Brian Kelly, only to get worse.

Was driving home all morning… was this as much of an implosion as it would seem? Only caught parts on the radio.

I think it really hurt Curbelo to be out so much early this year. It made it more difficult for him to integrate any development he might have made this year. They say a player under pressure reverts to his habits, and it felt like Curbelo really reverted to his habits once he came back.

This off season, and next year will likely be big for him if he wants to become a more solid and complete player.

It wasn’t an insane train wreck, tbh – just clear that Houston was a horrible matchup for him and that U of I really needed shooters if they were gonna have any chance.

It was clear Curbelo and Hawkins weren’t going to cut it today. Houston was leaving them both wide open behind the arc every play to double Kofi and stick with the other shooters. Putting in Goode and Melendez was for sure the right call to get more shooters out there.

I don’t think it was an implosion really. Houston was winning and pretty obviously better all day. When Goode and Melendez first came in Illinois went on a run because Houston clearly hadn’t scouted them. Once they got to half though, Illinois clearly couldn’t do anything offensively anymore. The game got away in the last 4 minutes when Illinois was desperate but they never really had a shot.

I think he needs a different coach. To clarify: I don’t think Underwood is a bad coach, but he seems to be bad for Curbelo.

Just like we did against Tennessee hahaha!

You know, I think it’s important to forgive your enemies and turn the other cheek.

Tennessee thought they were as good as a two-seed.

Michigan should help prove them right. How does Michigan 76, Villanova 68 sound?
