2022 NCAA Tournament Open Thread

We had won a share of the title the year before (2012). That missed putback cost us a 3-peat.

Still definitely hurt though.

Don’t forgot Illinois literally made up that they won a regular season championship last year

Good point. 2012 felt like an aberration though – we didn’t realize at the time that it was the dawn of a new era.

2013 was so painful because Michigan had an open door to an outright title and then lost that game at PSU to put them in a position where they were only playing for a share.

I agree. I just think banners at least help make the year a success. Purdue for example, if they lose today that is a failure of a year. They win today, I think you consider second weekend a success but will be hard to swallow if no Final Four. (Like Michigan in 2018-19.)

Barkley–“If it’s true, it’s not bragging”
That is the very definition of bragging. If it isn’t true, it’s called lying.

I think Muhammad Ali said it first. He was accused of bragging when he’d declare himself “the greatest”.

So if Villanova goes win today are Eli and Gillespie the only 2 players to play in that national title game? Granted Eli played 1 garbage time minute but it counts!

I had no idea MAAR was so cocky :joy:

Eli vs Nova would be a cool story. Jay Wright really is a fantastic coach. Spotted Eli right away.

Not a charge… :sigh:

and it was bragging AND true

Thought that was a very obvious charge. Moore jumped right into Young, who was straight up.

Another reason I’d be cool with playing Nova; their thin bench and slow play style means it’ll be easy for us to play our starters as close to the full 40, especially if Devante’s out.

I didn’t think he was straight up, but I went back and watched it again, and it’s a lot closer than I thought. So, yeah, probably a charge – he definitely wasn’t set, but he did appear to have legal guarding position. It’s really just a question of whether or not his arms were leaning forward and if that caused the contact.

I can’t stand when the offensive player initiates contact with a defender and am always happy to see it called a charge in instances like that.

I may be biased by the red uniforms.

I have to say I really don’t want to play Nova. Unless you tell me they’re going to miss their threes. They’re five out and we struggle with that.

Note on Craft. He wasn’t dirty in the way Davison is…but he was a total flop artist and did a lot of clutching and grabbing that didn’t get called much. That, combined with the over the top praise he got for being a scrappy white guy made him easy to hate.

I like EJ and wish he played for someone else. I don’t have much against Holtman. But it is OSU and they still have the same obnoxious fans.

Let’s go NOVA!!

This is the kind of game where I tell myself that I am rooting for OSU because they’re the easier opponent for Michigan. But then every time something good happens for OSU during the game, my heart says :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:
