2022 NBA Playoffs Open Thread

Yeah. Butler was huge but he looked really gassed at the end. The heat have a lot of dawg in them but they’re too banged up to make up for not good enough offensively.

Jordan Poole you’re my only hope.

What is Heat cap situation? Bam and Butler are worth whatever they are paid. Lowry is the toughest player type of player to value but doesn’t seem like a $30 million man. Oladipo still in $20s? That’s tough. And man, can’t say they did him dirty but an unplayable $75 million Duncan Robinson looks really unlucky. Of course I think they should have played him more, given what they had.

I thought about this when thinking about the PJ Tucker comments above. PJ seems like a guy you are happy to have at $8 and he is a real decent player, but man, it is tough when your goal is the Finals. Really need two way guys. I was thinking the Heat could really look nice with, like, Paul George and then, obviously, nope. Lol.

I mean PJ Tucker was a starter on the last NBA Champion.

JP gonna have to spend the entire summer figuring out how to play defense. He’ll end up dealt to some sad sack franchise that doesn’t care if he ever plays D otherwise.

I’m having flashbacks. Get him outta there.

Sacramento isn’t far away.

Unbelievable spurt by Horford there. Celtics have a legitimate shot to win this series and I did not expect that.

Sickened. I just had to watch that.

I don’t understand why people say that. The Celtics have been the best team in the nba for a while now. Why would they not be able to beat the warriors?

Woof, Draymond

They had an awful stretch this year.

So did the Warriors, but this can’t be happening goddammit.

We’re never going to hear the end of this championship if they win this series. You realize this, right?

They’re still talking about 2008. This franchise has 17 titles and they’re talking about 2008 like they were the going to work pistons.

edit: In a different universe Jon Horford leads us to two back to back NCAA championships and is in the Finals destroying Golden State.

I think people see the warriors with steph and klay and think there the juggernaut they were in 2018. Reality is, they aren’t that anymore. I think only JJ redick predicted the Celtics to win, as far as espn goes.(Kendrick Perkins doesn’t count. There’s a built in bias there.)

I thought the warriors in 6 personally. Only one game but quite the start for the C’s. I certainly underestimated them.

Also, I don’t believe their the best in the East if Middleton doesn’t get hurt. Just my opinion.

The Celtics are the 7 seed? Huh?

Yes. @kturnup is right that they are the best team in the league. I hate the Celtics even more for having players and a coach who are all pretty impressive and likeable. They make a good basketball villain.

But, that was nuts. I don’t think that game tells us much. Save for this, from the Department for Things Least Likely to Say: Curry had better stay out of foul trouble if the Warriors want to put their best defense out there for fourth quarters.

Sorry! Second seed. I just remember them having an awful stretch of games to start the year and that colored my view of them. They’re good, no doubt. They play great defense. I just haven’t been convinced by their offense. Jaylen Brown, while great, has awful handles, Smart isn’t the best offensive player, Tatum is prone to disappear on that end every other game. But if this game is indicative of their potential then I’m flat out wrong.

Relevant. They’ve been at least somewhat healthier than most teams. Guys in and out of the lineup, but didn’t lose a secondary star for the whole of it.

IMO Marcus Smart has really grown up as a basketball player. Can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’d love to have him.

It’s been alluded to here, but I think it’s worth remembering that the Vegas/pundit picks are largely based on the Warriors name recognition as a playoff deathstar, and not the 2021-2022 version of the team. They are a very good team - I’m not saying otherwise, but the gap in net efficiency margin (ie, the difference between offensive and defensive efficiency) between the Celtics and the Warriors in the regular season was the same as the gap between the Warriors and Sixers (nobody’s idea of a contender).

On the season as a whole, the Celtics were a hair (0.1) behind the Suns, and were #1 since January with a bullet. I think there is an extremely strong case they’ve been the best team in the NBA, and it hasn’t been particularly close. Since January they are a colossal +12.7, while the Warriors are +2.7 - that 10 point gap is the gap between the Warriors and Houston Rockets.
