2022 NBA Playoffs Open Thread

Anybody but Boston.

If the Heat win, Duncan gets a ring.
If the Warriors win, Poole gets a ring.
If the Mavs win, Luka winning without an elite roster overall, I get alot more hope for the Pistons winning a title with Cade.

If Boston wins, everyone else loses. The whole earth will have to suffer through the hell that is a happy Celtics fan.

I like Cuban. I appreciate owners that care about winning. I wish Tom Gores was as invested in creating a winning product. He just likes to show up to a few games and get blasted on the sideline.

Nikki Buckets gets a ring. That’s the upside of a Celtics win.

Nowhere near enough.

I love Cade and think he will be a star, but I don’t see a world where he gets that close to Luka. Luka is a different breed. But I do see a world where Detroit can win it all with Cade regardless. Hopefully they strike gold in this draft.

Hot take but I think Luka proved he’s probably a top 3 player in the world both now and in terms of building a team around him long term. We are talking about a guy who could be in the true All Time Greats discussion in 10 years. If Cade is 75% of that then Detroit has a decent chance at winning at least one ring in the next 10ish years.

Luka just turned 23 in February. There are incoming rookies who are older than him.

If Cade becomes as good as Luka I’ll be the happiest person to be wrong on the planet

Not with that defense is he a top 3 player. He is top 10, though.

And Cade doesn’t have the passing ability of Luka but he’s a better shooter and defender than him.

Stauskas had an important* assist in a game 7 series clinching win. Gotta love it.

*important to me

I love the Cade/Luka comparisons but when it comes to just rampaging through a series like Luka just did without playing much defense at all, it’s hard to see Cade ever getting to that point. But it’s easy to see Cade being the alpha scorer and a disruptive defender on a well-constructed but more balanced team.

I have Magic in my Top 3 and he wasn’t much on the defensive end. He was, however, THE GUY you want running your team.

Dallas is a good defense. Why are we saying Luka didn’t play much defense at all. He’s not a good defender but he’s more than passable. Similar to Steph in that way except just because he’s strong he should be able to avoid being picked on even moreso than Steph

did you guys see Luka post up AYTON? Not just Bridges but the actual center. a truly disrespectful amount of thiccness

Well I take it back if I’m in the wrong. About his defense specifically. I didn’t see much of that series because I don’t watch blowouts and every time I tuned in somebody was up 25

The bump into the spin and fadeaway three was :eyes:

I can’t see Cade getting to Luka’s level offensively. He’ll be a better defender, but Luka’s so good offensively, he just has to not be Trae Young on defense.

I think it’s a legit question if you would take Luca or Lebron in a 7 game series right now. Is Luca better than KD? I guess maybe. Giannis seems better overall than any of them, but he is not a passer. And then there are the guards—Steph and maybe a half step behind Dame. Ja? Probably not yet. And then Ivey, a hair behind, but passed over by the Pistons.

still LeBron for me

This is what I saw at the start of the series that I think caused a lot of the “Luka doesn’t play defense” stuff:

Clearly they figured something out after that.

This game has had more highlight blocks than any game since Ben Wallace’s prime.
