Caleb at 38. Mathurin to the Pistons.
Itās a weird, weird board. I think Iāve said before that I think models seem to me to be a lot more useful after the lottery than before and to help think about who within the lottery to prefer and why?
The Lofton one, Iād guess itās his AST% in particular thatās popping? Itās also really good raw production for a freshman age kid. But, uh, yeah. Would be a heck of a bet to make taking him in the lottery.
Yeah, thatās probably true. I think there is a good player in there probably, but (and this is something no context-free model will see) I donāt think you could have any expectation of him being physically able to play 20 mins of NBA basketball.
Ivey to Pistons, Houstan #32
Samās final big board w annual massive text dump. Caleb 46th, Moussa 60th.
He had Houstan going #34 to OKC for those wondering about his mock
Houstan 32, Diabate 58
So Nate Duncanās pod did Dyson Daniels (in essence: not buying it, the worst prospect theyāve seen of the top group) and Shaedon Sharpe who, while acknowledging that he knows nothing about interviews (but noting that reporting is often BS) and also that there is no recent filmā¦felt Sharpe was a top 3 pick. He felt Sharpe was the best shooter off the dribble of the lottery projected picks, an elite finisher (better than Ivey), a solid passer, and a competitive defender.
It seems like the draft starts at 4 (please Kings become the Kangz). The top 3 are almost set in stone with JSJ, Chet and Paolo in that order. I want Ivey the worst way for the Pistons.
Thatās what they say. There are reports that the Kings see Ivey as a poor fit with Fox and Mitchell in place (which is very KANGZ-y), and will either try to trade it or may take Murray instead.
I stand by my āIvey or Sharpe for the Pistonsā take.
It definitely sounds like itās Mathurin though.
As a Pacers fan, I want Sharpe at 6. Swing for the fences and hope he blows up! (and then heāll leave after his rookie contract for Miami or LA).
Heās who Id take. I think āinterviews wellā is nonsense and people like Givony have pushed back against the ābad workoutsā narrative.
I think his challenge is that most NBA GMs donāt watch EYBL, so heās something of a black box. I also donāt blame him for not playing this year after enrolling in November, with no off-season.
Giovany insinuated that Mathurin is the pick if Ivey is gone by 5 so Iām inclined to think itās Ivey, Mathurin and Murray in that order for the Pistons after the big 3.
I guess - I tend to think Ivey is going at four, the bigger question is who is taking him.
I would say that this is absolutely false.
Ok, Iām regurgitating what Givony said on Zach Lowes pod there. May have been specific to ādepth of COVID EYBLā, but he definitely said it was mostly scouts.
Givony said NBA GMs donāt watch EYBL?
He said they donāt attend.
Specifically, the year Sharpe played, his games intersected with the draft on the calendar.
That makes sense. Thatās different than not watching, in my mind. Scouts are typically the on the ground people until the end
The mystery of Sharpe is added in that he only just blew up last year. So he has junior year prep and then the following summer, and thatās it.
