2022 NBA Draft Discussion

Vecenie says it’s likely Murray or Mathurin for Pistons

Personally I like Murray between the two, but I think I’m less down with Mathurin than most of the board.

I can see Murray rounding into something like what Wiggins was in the playoffs. Mathurin…I can’t escape thinking “Kentavious Caldwell-Pope”, which isn’t BAD, but not terribly exciting.

I think Murray could be like a Mikal Bridges level player. Good defender. Plays well off of your stars on offense.

Keegan Murray definitely feels like a Spurs kind of player.

Mathurin over Ivey? Oof

Would love the Spurs to grab Murray at 4 so the Pistons can get Ivey at 5. Would be best case scenario IMO

Wonder if that’s a smokescreen for Ivey

Also, if the Pistons like Mathurin as much as it sounds, it would be nice if they can swing the deal with Portland and just take him at 7 and get another guy at 5.

At the very least, if Mathurin is who they want, you’d hope they’d move down a bit and get some extra stuff.

Murray at #5 plus Mathurin sounds ideal. But if Murray is off the board, who makes sense at #5 to pair with Mathurin?

Don’t think Sam was saying they would take Mathurin/Murray over Ivey. I think that was working off the assumption Ivey is gone

Yeah I agree there. If Murray is gone, you have to take Ivey at 5 and then you’d go in a different direction at #7 if you make the deal.

Just me, but if I wanted Mathurin, I’d be hard-pressed to at least not consider trading down to the late-teens and taking Agbaji.

But they want Mathurin, they don’t want Agbaji

Oh I know. I just don’t see a 15-slot gap in value between them (or any gap?). Obviously, Detroit disagrees with that.

I think that sounds reasonable but what I don’t understand is why you think Murray is that much better than Agbaji and Mathurin.

That’s impossible? Wiggins was the number 1 draft pick in his class, considered one of the most athletic players of his year. Murray is not even in the same realm of athlete.

Anyone but Keegan Murray, if that’s what we end up with at five we should trade down.

Yup Murray is 22, defensive skill is still in question. He’s a rotation player or bottom end starter. Not an ideal 5th pick. Would prefer to move down.

Pistons really needed to get 4th pick and got screwed. Got to see if kings want grant plus a future 1st.

I think this is a good class but 5-30 is pretty much a roll of the dice and you have to do your homework.

Like, I don’t get it, why is Keegan Murray a better prospect than EJ Liddell by 20 picks, why is he better than Ron Harper Jr by 40+ picks? Malakhi Barnham…can you give me a good reason why a younger Barnham is a much worse NBA prospect than Keegan Murray? It makes zero sense and it seems like the mock draft that was created just as the season ended has become the consensus order and we’re stuck with pondering only Keegan Murray at 5.

Saying Keegan Murray’s defensive skill is “in question” is really really strange to me. I’d think that if you don’t like him, it would be his ability to score.
