So Houstan and Diabate haven’t made a decision yet is what I’m gathering from both tweets.
Haven’t announced a decision, which you probably would have gathered before reading those tweets if they had.
Or they just haven’t publicly announced it… like they didn’t publicly announce their draft entry until after the fact. Wouldn’t be surprised if the same thing happens on June 1st
I think Juwan’s silence or any official news that UM is actively pursuing transfers, says a lot more about Caleb’s and Moussa’s silence.
I think the extent of Juwan’s public comments since the season ended was tweeting out a picture of him at practice.
Also worth pointing out that it has been a dead period throughout most of May (ends tomorrow) so no visits or anything happening. Not sure what you mean by “official news.”
The fact that most of the top prospects in the portal are also in the draft and most of the spots they’ll end up depend on draft decisions leads to a lot of slow-moving transfer news of late.
I would call “official news” anything but what it is discussed in this forum about transfers. I suppose the coaching staff is in strict radio silence and they do not talk about this in public. It can be either they are waiting for Caleb and Moussa to decide, or (my guess), they already know they are coming back after they got their NBA evaluations.
I wish I had your optimism, but I don’t think there’s been a single piece of promising news from either moussa or caleb throughout this process. more likely, everyone is just moving in silence.
I still maintain that we look at the history of transfers the last few years, nothing really happens until it happens. Our transfers get linked and then wrapped up rather quickly it seems.
yeah, although it’s never been quite this late. things have changed a lot, though, so I have no idea how significant that is.
But it’s clear that we’ll get some action after June 1. Maybe all that happens is they strike out, but the plan is to court the guys who withdraw from the draft, we’ve been told. So, nothing to do but sit on it for another week.
Ahh Mike Schmitz. Any remember when he joined the broadcast for Michigan at Wisconsin in January 2019? Some highlights: Schmitz had Romeo Langford ranked 5 and JP ranked 66. Dakich quickly points out how crazy it is to have Langord that high because he can’t shoot and then suggests that JP is really underrated. When asked why he has Iggy unranked, Schmitz offers that Belein’s players underperform in the NBA. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsZnnpg_rbE
Good luck Portland!
He was right on Iggy though? He’s not an NBA player despite being drafted. And it’s not like Schmitz being higher on Langford compared to Poole was even remotely egregious at the time.
There are scores of guys in NBA front offices who have made bad decisions and draft picks. Every year, you get quotes from scouts in every league saying a guy can’t play, and then they’re wrong.
Dakich was just broken-clock right about Poole.
Portland should have hired Dakich
Langford was drafted 14th and Poole was 28th. His rankings were way off at the time, not only in hindsight. I guess give him credit on Iggy, but it’s just funny to me that he was relying on how guys like Burke and Stauskas had performed. What does that have to do with anything?
I mean, at the time, what Beilein player was performing to their draft stock in NBA?
Stauskas was a massive bust after being picked number 8. So was Trey Burke (9th overall) became a career rotation point guard. Mitch McGary, 21st overall pick, played 2 years of professional basketball. DJ Wilson, 17th pick, is looking ready to exit the league in his sixth year.
The only player you can say played up to his billing is Tim Hardaway Jr (24th), and GRIII (40th pick in the second round) who is still in the league. The only player to over perform is Caris Levert who was picked 20th overall.
And he was dead on about Iggy. Schmidt knows what he’s talking about.
At that point, you had a decent number of guys who looked good on offense in college while playing little defense, and then they got to the NBA and couldn’t play offense either. Beilein had a great rep as an offensive mind obviously, so if you think he’s making all of these guys look better than they are, it’s not really surprising that it got brought up despite being different players
Well, he was wrong once.
I guess Portland needs to recant.
