Got it. 10+ PPG scorer that played 80% of minutes NOT a key player

“Occasionally good and frequently sucked”

Well, those are the same points and usage as Caleb Houstan. Was Caleb a key contributor? I dunno, he disappeared for games in a row. Average for 3pts was pretty good (36.6%), but he was good at home and terrible on the road. Erratic on defense. While I would like to see Caleb return, I won’t be too upset if he doesn’t. Personally, I wouldn’t say that Caleb was a key contributor and I feel the same way about Poole at UM. The GSW Poole is a stud.

I feel like both Poole and Caleb were pretty major contributors, for different reasons. I’ll definitely be sad to see Caleb go. How many guys can give good shooting numbers on 150+ 3-point attempts? Sure his defense and his non-shooting offensive skills were lacking but the kind of spacing that he provides, alone, is extremely valuable. One of the keys to being a good team in this age of basketball is being able to take a good amount of threes, make a good amount of threes, and at the very least have spacing. Caleb did all of those things, even if his other contributions were lacking.

He was 2nd on the team in scoring and 2nd in assists. How is that not a key contributor?

I’m confident I don’t agree w Dylan about everything but pretty bold to call his recollection into question

Poole scored in double digits 26 times in the final 34 games, in a span in which Michigan went 27-7. The fact that we don’t all unanimously agree Poole was super incredible at Michigan is more due to a combo of how good that team was (which he was a huge part of the highest highs), and how awesome he turned out to be years later. On a team with Teske and X and Iggy and Matthews and Livers, the team was at its best when Poole played well. Which happened extremely frequently.

That team went 30-3 against teams that didn’t make the final four. Poole played the 2nd most minutes, scored the 2nd most points, had the 2nd most assists, had a higher FG% than Matthews and Simpson, hit 2 threes per game at a 37% clip and was all around fun as he!!. It’s a shame we can’t unanimously remember him as such.

So he’s trash

This isn’t just a Poole thing though. As a whole, I’d say that was one of the most under appreciated seasons because of expectations (F4 the year before, hot start) and disappointing finish. It also happened to be one of the best teams that Beilein ever had which is the ironic part despite the results.

That’s how the sport works though.

Great call

It’s funny that Poole’s faults (cold to end the year, “flighty” defense) are constantly remembered

Nobody discusses Ignas missing every shot in January

Nobody discusses X losing his mind in the first MSU loss

Matthews having arguably the worst season shooting of any Beilein starter

Not to malign those guys - I love them all! But why does Poole always get people acting reckless?

Players aren’t metronomes

35% shooters don’t make 7 of every 20 threes.

But why not??

Poole has been drafted and working on a second contract almost. Topic title 2022 NBA Draft. Move on from the Poole crap and talk about those involved.

Yes, and it’s a very definitive yes…

I’m willing to bet that most people here trashing Poole and Houstan couldn’t win a Gus Macker Toilet Bowl if their lives depended on it.

Case in point: I invented the Dirk fadeaway and am hence unstoppable in 3 on 3.
