2021 NBA Draft Discussion

Ya’ll are forgetting at Franz’s role is vastly different at Alba as opposed to Michigan. We’ll see him in more of a role at Alba and his shooting split was very good as a spot up shooter. I think NBA teams will take that into account to go along with his improved defense at Michigan in his recent season. That’s a pretty darn good 3 and D wing prospect with potential to get better.

His shooting issues are confidence and footwork. Footwork are easier to fix. Confidence is the tricky part.

I think Franz as a complimentary player on a good team is going to make a lot of people happy. Franz being asked to play a bigger role on a bad team could be bad.

Not that it matters, but it can’t hurt him to have a brother that’s been playing in the NBA and also had to deal with that adjustment.

I’m no expert but his shooting woes seem to boil down to mechanics. Takes way too long to take a shot as his starting motion starts almost at the hip. I don’t know, I’m not very optimistic about his shooting.

No chance Franz can contribute to any team in any significant way. He’s got a lot of potential but all he has at the moment is decent college level playmaking and ‘great’ college level defense with tremendous upside in that department. I’m worried about his offense at the next level.

He’s still 6-10, so he’s going to be able to get that shot off. It will improve over time, but he’ll be fine given his natural feel for the game on defense and a simple role on offense that will expand over time. He’s the age of a one and done and still has plenty of upside, but also has far more experience then players who usually have those traits. He’s not going to be a rookie of the year candidate, but he’s going to be just fine. Very possible that the team that takes Scottie Barnes higher is always going to eye Franz with some regret.

Zamir is a good follow for draft stuff if you don’t mind Warriors content too. Pretty sure this list is effectively a mashup of some ML model plus his eyeball test.

Looks like Livers is trending to be drafted? If so, good for him!

To be clear, Zamir’s not trying to predict who gets drafted where, just his model-informed guess of who is most likely to have the best NBA career.

But yeah my interpretation of what the models are saying so far is that Livers’ shooting skill looks to be genuinely elite and teams are sleeping on that a bit. I don’t know how well they handle injury risk though. And maybe if he hadn’t been so frequently injured he’d be much more highly rated?

That seems pretty accurate to me. I feel like his shooting gives him such a high floor as a prospect, and shooting specialists are really valuable right now.

In the next five days I’m going to work “toolsy” into a description of myself three times and see what kind of looks I get.

If he can hit threes, attack close outs with a two dribble pull up and play with energy, he’s got a shot. Let’s see how he does in the Summer League.

Toolsy is the name of the Tool cover band I just started.

I was 100% certain you would have named it “Aenimaniacs”

No not me. But someone else probably needs to do that.

Another “toolsy” spotted in the wild.

I’m gonna go get some VC money for Toolsify, my skills-videos aggregation app.

Toolsy is a fun word there, but I’m surprised you didn’t also comment on “unteachable size.”

That’s opposed to the kind taught in college courses such as SIZ 101.

Obviously you didn’t take the course, because the first lesson is to refer to it as SIZ 10000000000001

Well I was advanced enough that I skipped straight to the graduate course, BIG 747. Classes for that were held in a repurposed airplane hanger.
