I think this OSU team will be so bad that it might hurt his draft stock a little bit.
Seems weird that an elite kid who is only going to be in college for a year would want to go somewhere that he canāt even play in the NCAA tournament. That seems to be the primary allure for playing college basketball for the one and dones - chance to play under the bright lights of the tournament that you grew up watching. Otherwise, he could just get paid a lot of money to also not play in the NCAA tournament.
He and his brother are obviously very tight
Being on a bad team didnt hurt Ben Simmons or Markelle Fultz much. Or Anthony Edwards. Cunningham will be fine draft stock wise I think.
Ben Simmons and other top prospects in recent years have missed out on the tourney and it didnāt hinder their draft stocks. There was a discussion about that in a recent thread within the last month or so. I think Cade just wants the experience of college more than anything. Family is clearly a priority to him. Heās going to end up in the nba regardless so he wants to do it on his own term. @kturnup you beat me to it regarding prospects. I think Cade will be fine. Plus, loyalty is a rare commodity in todayās era for pros. Let alone college and high school kids. I think this sort of reiterates just how mature Cade is to scouts. From what Iāve heard heās a special kid and human being whoās extremely down to earth and not always looking for greener pastures.
Yeah, I donāt think it hurts his pro prospects. I just donāt know how much fun it would be to play an entire season basically for nothing. Every game is essentially meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Ben Simmons probably at least thought heād be playing in the tournament. Cade knows for a fact he wonāt.
Unlike Cardale Jones, perhaps Cunningham is going to Okie State to āplay schoolā.
I doubt that! But probably just wants to be a student for a couple months and help his brother who is currently in a terrible situation with his program
I think the NBA is going to find top prospects wherever they are. I do think you maybe could argue how it affects ātheir brandā (not to quote Josh Cristopher). OSU isnāt going to be on TV very often, they likely will be pretty bad, they will be banned from the tournament, etc. If he plays well despite that situation, he will be drafted based as much on potential as the NBA typically does. Would he benefit from going to Duke or Kentucky? Maybeā¦
Classic debate between being a star on a bad team versus one of many stars on a good team.
I can get behind the idea of Cade supporting his brother, and Iām sure heāll still be a lottery selection based on what he has showcased up to this point. I also think there is a hit to his brand. Hoops fans and sports media clamor for a star player to get behind every March. Cunningham wonāt be that guy and while itās not the end of the world, I hope he has made his decision because of family.
Yeah I mean Michael Porter Jr. went to Mizzou, missed basically his entire freshman season due to a back injury, and was still a lottery pick. As long as Cunningham doesnāt forget how to play basketball heāll be a high lottery pick, and if he gets injured he still has a real shot.
And as others have said, playing on bad teams didnāt hurt Fultz or Simmons. As long as Cunningham looks vaguely like the player heās expected to be, heāll be fine.
As of right now, Okla St will still be very talented. They brought in a good class and still have Issac Likekele, who is very talented. They did lose their big man presence in Yor Anei though.
Thatās a strong Jalen Suggs insurance policy if they can get him immediate eligibility and Suggs ends up going the professional route.
Better Spokane than Durham.
No big surprise here (other than coming a day late). Really good get for Gonzaga for sure. Nembhard is a guy I always want to like more than I do when I actually watch him play, but a new system and a sit-out year could be a big boost.
If heās immediately eligible and Suggs is also on the roster, thatās the best team in the country IMO.
Nembhard, Suggs, Ayayi, Kispert, Petrusev, Timme is naaaasty, plus the 7-9th guys on the roster are all incoming freshmen/sophomores who were former top 70 recruits.
Michigan going to land Kobe king?
has anyone with any validity said this?
Anei could be a really nice fit at UM with the block rate, but who knows if there is any mutual interest there.
