2020 Transfer Market

Kier is thick and athletic, can guard 2’s and smaller wings. Can knock down the 3 obviously and handle it, not much in the form of passing though.

He could handle 15 minutes at the 2 in the big ten no problem imo.

I agree about preferring time for Cole and Zeb to most of the available options. But if both Isiahs bounce we will need to add someone just for depth.

Surprised people aren’t more interesting in bringing an underclass transfer, especially with potential eligibility.

I’d be willing to go the regular transfer route much more than grad transfer. The grad transfers are uninspiring at this point and I’d prefer to give Zeb and Bajema minutes

I’d love to bring in dj carton but based on rumblings out there that one seems totally off limits for a program like UM.

Good article on up transfers

Can we call DJ Carton?

No idea where Michigan will look at this point but a guy like Jamal Bieniemy makes a ton of sense to me.

Thats a good name, loved this tape in high school

Yep would love that but he’s mostly a SW guy right? But yeah I’d prefer a sit out transfer and have been on that train for a bit. Will even things our and give us experience for 2021-22 when we’re gonna have way too many scholarships. Plus any grad transfer we get isn’t gonna move the needle.

Bieniemy also shot 34% from the field and 25% from three while playing 32 minutes a game.

And shot 40% from 3 as a freshman. I think taking a 6-5 HM guard who started in the Big 12 and is regarded as a good defender makes a lot more sense than trying to add a mid-major.

On the opposite of that, putting up those type of numbers playing for a coach as good as Kruger is probably not a good sign.

Or playing that poorly offensively and playing the 4th highest minutes % in Big 12 is a sign that you probably either have potential or are a good defensive cog.

I just think from Michigan’s POV, adding a low-usage HM guy might make more sense than a high-usage MM guy. Talked about it on the pod a bit.

Is this assuming immediate eligibility? I’m confused on what value a low usage, bad shooter brings to next year’s roster other than great defense at the guard spot. If the idea is he’d sit one, play two and Juwan can get some shot creators/shot makers on the roster around him by 2021-2022, then I’d like it.

I also haven’t listened to the pod yet and plan to do so today, so feel free to direct me there if you explain that in full

Charles Matthews?? Bienemy can still develop his skills. A slasher that can play D could help this team in the short and long term

Matthews was 10% better from the floor overall with 10% higher usage. Also bigger and stronger. still wouldn’t solve any of the three largest problems on next year’s roster to me: shot creation, shot making, rim protection.

Matthews had a 13% usage rate, shot 46% on twos and 25% on threes (4 3PA) when he transferred.

I’m not saying Bieniemy is Charles Matthews but he’s a secondary creator (solid assist numbers) and plus perimeter defender who can guard wings – something U-M’s roster lacks right now.

Mostly just trying to illustrate how taking a transfer with HM experience to add depth could make a lot of sense.

Charles at Kentucky was not at all good offensively.

Also Bieniemy would have the highest returning AST% on our team, so that would be very valuable to our team and could help with shot creation

Probably not coming back, but intriguing delay nonetheless.
