When they flit over our way, they have seen the light…the other way, and they are self-centered or duped, clearly.
I wouldn’t be able to stomach recruiting in that pool of prospects if I was a coach. For 21’ I would be staying local getting whomever I could out of Brooks, Bufkin, and Aikens and build out from there. I like the Kansas model as far as quality of recruits. Build your class in the 40-110 range, and chase 1 or 2 elites and hope for the best.
Those guys are all solid but some of gen are a bit redundant no? Although we need tons of guards.
That’s pretty much the strategy Juwan went for this cycle
Yes, we obviously couldn’t take all of them because of redundancy, but I hope we start there with 1 or 2 that don’t end up at MSU, and go from there.
I know he ended up there, but he sure came in swinging for all the fences, probably understandably so. If I remember correctly, it took him a minute to get down to the attainable list.
I’d say that’s kind of what we did this year. Missing out on JC hurts because of the lack of depth at guard and a true playmaker but I think a class of Zeb, Dickinson, and Williams has a nice balance with a guy like Christopher or Todd. Sucks that a couple weeks ago I’d have bet we’d have both and we ended up with neither.
2020-21 roster speculation had Beilein stayed:
Brooks/DeJulius/Jackson
Abdur-Rahim/Bajema/Jackson
Wagner/Wilson/Bajema
Livers/Johns
Castleton/Loveday
No Wilson?
I’m drawing a blank, for which I’m sure to be embarrassed shortly.
Jalen Wilson
Good lord. Thank you.
Fun speculation. I like that roster, but I wonder if DDJ would have still been dissatisfied with playing time. He would likely spend some time at the 2 ahead of or behind Abdur-Rahim.
Might we be looking at a different transfer if Wilson was on the roster? I don’t think there were enough minutes at the 3 and 4 to keep everyone happy.
Yes, I suspect one or two on that hypothetical team would have transferred this offseason. I suppose my roster was a best-case scenario.
I think people are being overly negative as a result to the drama of Christopher and Todd going elsewhere within a 12 hour span. Michigan has 3 top 100 guys coming in with the potential for another top 100 guy or a transfer.
JB did great with development and we have to wait and see how Juwan is in that part. That’s also probably a big reason for the negativity.
Yeah, I do think the class would have at least consisted of Zeb, JAR and a big (Kessler, Loveday, someone else). Then I’m sure he would have gone after maybe a late bloomer like he usually did. Whether that’s better than the current class is up for debate. I sure would love to have a scoring guard like JAR, but Dickinson will be very good and it’s questionable whether JB would have gotten a big as good as him.
I also think people are forgetting about T Will…the guy is a physical player who will step out and hit some 3’s. I’m not sure if JB gets him because Howard really focused on the DMV area (also why they got Dickinson)
I like T-Will a lot. He likely isn’t the kind of player that JB would have pursued though. There would be someone else in that spot.
IMO, it’s a good class in a vacuum, but not one that fits and properly addresses the holes left over the past two years of recruitng/attrition.
Holes, plural? I see one. It’s glaring, and of course, we had a “plan” for that (which fell through…).
What else do you see other than a playmaking guard?
High-level shooting and playmaking. Wasn’t addressed in the transition class (no fault of Juwan), and was hurt even more by the Dave transfer. This class doesn’t really address it either. So, yeah I don’t hate the class but I do have significant pessimism for next year.
