I am expecting a jump from John’s. He has a man’s body and Todd although long and skilled he will have to adjust to BIG play and playing with talent at his level or better night in and night out. I don’t see Todd playing the 5 much at all even in small ball situations. Will be pleasantly surprised if Smith gets more than 15 to 20 minutes a game. Also, every year people act like freshman are going to come in and play a ton of minutes and then it does not happen. If Josh Christopher comes he probably will probably play a ton out of necessity because of team need and the skill he brings. But after that its going to be hard for any other frosh to get a ton of minutes.
Pg: Brooks 20/ Smith 20
Sg: Christoper 30/ Brooks 10
Sf: Wagner 30/ Livers 10
Pf: Livers 20/ Todd 12/ Johns 8
C: Dickinson 15/ Johns 10/ Todd 10/ Davis 5
Idk how playing 4 players at center will work but this seems to get everyone an adequate amount of minutes. Small ball lineups will be our best I think so giving both Johns and Todd a chance at the 5 seems to make sense. Just don’t see how Bajema, Jackson, or Williams could establish themselves firmly in the rotation if we have all of these guys. Maybe they could see some sporadic minutes like Nunez saw this year. I sort of expect we will only have one of the Isaiahs next year though so this could be a pointless exercise.
So Zeb Jackson going to redshirt in this scenario?
Edit: just read the rest of your post…
The bottomline line is our roster is looking really good when you have four guys locked in for 30+ minutes and six others deserving of 15+ minutes each. I really hope Juwan doesn’t throw out the double center line up next year! No one wants to see Davis & Dickinson!
I think this would be physically impossible lol. We would give up like 1.8 ppp with that combo
With Zeb, it seems as simple as beating out Mike Smith for backup PG minutes. We can sit here and predict that (or predict it won’t happen) but it is easy enough to see the path.
With Williams, I think it is tough to paint a path especially with both Todd/Livers on the roster.
With Bajema, if he’s more ready to play and can really shoot it … he might have a skill that the roster really lacks but the numbers are tough. The thing is, he could be in a great spot to start as a junior because there will be so much roster turnover.
I think Bajema sees a lot of pine this year and explodes his junior year. I just really hope he has the patience and that it pays off.
Bajema should be a redshirt candidate.
After all the discussion last week or the week before about Todd and about how hard it is to shoot well and be efficient as a freshman… has anyone else been thinking about how impressive Iggy’s one season at Michigan was?? Shot very efficiently and did a LOT for that UM team. Super impressive.
If everything breaks our way, and we land Christopher, keep Todd and Livers returns people are going to have to come to grips with the fact that guys who have some ability are not going to be seeing much of the court.
Eli, Christopher and Smith will get the minutes at Guard
Livers and Franz are going to get the VAST majority of the Wing time. Todd and Johns will battle for the backup minutes
Austin and Hunter are at the 5 with Todd or Johns getting the small ball minutes.
Zeb, Cole, Williams and Nunez aren’t playing. Hell, I have a hard time seeing how Todd and Johns will both get serious minutes. There’s only room for one of them, unless the other goes to the 5 and beats out Austin/Hunter.
So I’m sure Dylan has something cooking up addressing this, but now I’m really curious as to what happens with this minimum of one open scholarship. I wonder if a sit-out transfer is a possibility.
Time to put the full court press on Kyree Walker? Not sure if we have much of a chance…
There are weird rumors that he has fallen out of love with basketball.
no two ways about it, we need to move quickly on a grad transfer SG now. I don’t think we want Mike Smith playing 35 mpg.
Adam Miller still a possibility?
Yeah as I see it, it would help desperately for Livers to come back. You could go:
Smith
Brooks
Wagner
Livers
Dickinson/Davis
First off the bench: Todd, Johns, Bajema
No way Todd does not start. That’s if he even comes to Michigan
Yeah screw a sit out transfer, we need sg that can help us IMMEDIATELY.
Ok, then if he comes to Michigan and he starts (with Livers here), you would need to slide Wagner over to the 2.
Brooks/Smith
Wagner
Livers
Todd
Dickinson/Davis
the Illinois commit? I don’t think so
didn’t we try Wagner at the 2 against Wisconsin when Brooks was out and it was a defensive disaster?
