2020-21 Roster Speculation

Time to make the move on Karim Mane

Yes, it was.

that team would not be able to guard anybody in man to man

I’m not advocating for it. I was responding to gobluefan22233 who said there’s no way Todd doesn’t start. The thing is, there isn’t room in the starting lineup if Livers comes back

I’m not saying we should do it. I was responding to gobluefan22233 who said Todd would be starting. My original lineup had Franz at the 3

I’d be satisfied with 2 of the following 3 on the roster:
Livers
Johns
Todd

Having all three seems superfluous.

Rougggghhhhh recruiting cycle for the SG position. To be in on so many elite prospects (possibly in the top 2 for all of them), but strike out is kind of crazy. Christopher, Springer, Burnett, Moody - I heard really positive things that led to me to believe Michigan may have led with all 4 of them at one point in the recruitment. Brutal blow for the biggest glaring hole on the roster.

This has been a trend going back to Beilein, kennard, booker, battle, Blackmon, and several I am forgetting. Um cannot win a big time sg recruitment for whatever reason.

Unless we land some real big fish 2021 it may be a couple years til we’re a national contender again. I guess if transfers get immediate eligibility a lot can change fast. But the roster construction just isn’t gonna sort out til then. Not really Juwans fault either. Beilein left a weird roster.

The 2018 class is going to be a massive disappointment relative to expectations if Johns doesn’t blow up.

This isn’t a bad basketball team, despite the events of the past week. Is it going to win a championship? Probably not, but they could still make some noise.

In a perfect world Smith will turn in to a reliable distributor capable of hitting an open shot as a starting PG. People are too quick to sleep on Zeb around here. Before Juwan showed up and started offering every five-star with a pulse, Zeb was the type of guy who would have been the crown of our recruiting classes. He could very well contribute next year. If either Smith or Zeb isn’t what we hope they are, Eli can run point. You sacrifice playmaking ability for defense in this scenario.

SG is obviously the thinnest spot on the roster. If either Smith or Zeb prove capable of starting at this level, then your SG rotation can be Brooks and Wagner. Done. If Brooks is squeezed into PG, you hope one of Bajema or Nunez has developed

This is college basketball. It’s not unheard of for players you wouldn’t expect to take huge steps forward in the summer. DJ Wilson, Austin Davis, and Derrick Walton are just a few recent examples. Someone on this roster is going to surprise us positively next season.

This is also still a very good freshmen class. There’s what, four top 100 players in it? Three even if Todd leaves. Once again, just about any one of Dickinson, Williams, or Zeb would have headlined a Beilein class. One of these freshmen will carve out a role. Don’t die on the recruiting rankings hill, Brazdekis didn’t even finish in his years’ ESPN 100 and he was a one-and-done draft pick.

It’s unfortunate Christopher chose to play with his brother close to home. It threw our pipe dream of winning a national title out the window. But the sky is not falling.

You’ll have reasons to be concerned if we strike out on 2021 recruits. Juwan represents a philosophical shift for the program, and the fact is his first recruiting class was a success towards this shift, even without Christopher.

Gotta look at potential transfers don’t we? The rule might be changed with no sit out. The roster was gonna gonna need bodies because of the potential 1 year guy. Can we just wait until 2021 recruiting class?

If Livers doesn’t come back:

Smith
Brooks
Wagner
Todd
Dickinson/Davis

Bench usage: Johns, Bajema, Zeb, T Will

With Livers and Todd, you either have to slide Wagner to the 2 or bring Todd off the bench. This would also reduce the need for T Will to play unless he comes in ready.

The nightmare situation of losing Livers and Todd would mean that Johns starts at the 4 with Bajema, Zeb, and T Will coming off the bench. This isn’t ideal, but all things considered that is still a solid team.

I think people are forgetting just how much Wagner was coming on down the stretch this year. I fully expect him to be Michigan’s #1 option offensively this season.

I think most people aren’t expecting immediate eligibility til next year. Regardless we’re behind on most transfers already.

For sure. This is the danger of waiting forever on guys.

They still have 1 scholarship spot open at the moment with potentially up to 3 in the doomsday scenario of Livers leaving and Todd not signing.

Signing Period opens Wednesday. Probably not a lot of 2020 options at this point, unless we can pull a late flip which doesn’t feel likely.

I needed this

Backcourt minutes:

Smith (25) / Zeb (15)
Brooks (32) / Bajema (8)

is how I see it. I hope I don’t redo the frontcourt as well in case Livers leaves

Brooks played 32 mins last year so I would up him to something like 35.

Maybe fewer mins for Zeb as the backup 1 as Brooks can cover that while Bajema comes in at the 2 off the bench.

As for the front court, I see it’s probably more likely than not that we get one of Livers or Todd, but probably not both. If we do just get one, then it’s rather simple. Although idk how the mins would end up.

Wagner, Johns, T Will
Livers/Todd, Johns
Dickinson, Davis, Johns

I could see Johns being the first guy off the bench and playing wherever is needed in the front court
