2020-21 Roster Speculation

What city is your local hangout at?

Who is Pax?

I think he’s joking. Every local hangout in the country is closed.

Psssshhh Juwan isn’t recruiting a has-been 5⭐️

He might’ve been the guy everyone thought was Moe and Franz’s dad last summer?

We’re pretty sure it is.

It’s way too early to have made a decision about leaving Michigan early if that’s the “awful news.” Especially after what he said it would take for him to leave.

People propagating it have like 300 followers so hopefully not legit.

You can search on Twitter. I’m not going to link it knowing it’s not a real source.

I predict that lineup never appears on the court in an actual game.

The “big” lineup? If that’s the case I would agree, though I don’t think it hurts to try.

Does anybody think T-Will can carve out a small role this year (assuming Livers returns and no transfers)? Feels like everybody excited about this kid, one year hence.
I’m also in the Bajema camp. Hope he can carve out 8-12 minutes and give us a 3pt spark off the bench.

I’ll just note that Howard preferred to play Castleton, a guy who I think we can surmise had lost some faith from coaches, as the “in a pinch” center over Johns. Ie - I don’t think this staff sees Johns as a 5.

Would also note that Davis’ surprise offer of a 5th year would deepen this idea.

Based on rotations last year, I think Davis starts, and Todd finishes games at the 5.

However, my opinion right now is that Dickinson should start, and Johns should finish games at the 5.

Too early to tell though.

Wow, four people liking this; interesting. I love Johns, and know that his veteran presence could–could–be far more effective than Todd’s. I also think we saw late-season flashes that Johns could turn into a fine player. But Todd’s promise, to me, looks to be through the roof. I know, I know–he’ll be a freshman. But I think that Juwan can coax great play from the newcomers.

For the majority of the year we had 2 healthy, playable wings. Johns and one of Livers or Wagner depending on the point in the year. We had 3 Centers on the roster. If you played Johns at the 5 last year, that either meant you had a 3 PG lineup out there, Livers and Franz were both healthy and on the floor, or you were playing Nunez.

We played 31 games last year. 4 of them Wagner missed, 10 Livers missed, plus another 2 in which Livers went out with injury. That’s over half the schedule that we were down a starting wing, and for all the games Livers missed Johns was his replacement at the 4. It’s hard for Johns to play the 5 when he’s playing the 4. And then even when all the wings were healthy, it’s hard to find a time for Johns to play the 5 when 3 of our 9 playable players were true 5’s.

We did see Howard go with Johns at the 5 to close the Oregon and Wisconsin games, both games where all our wings were healthy (granted Brooks was out for Wisco).

I think it’s a big misnomer to say we won’t go with Johns at the 5 next year because our unbalanced roster composition last year made it so it didn’t happen much. I do think Howard likes a true 5 and we’ll probably start most games with a true 5, and in most games we’ll have a true 5 for the majority of the game. But we saw Howard bench a senior Teske for a pre-breakout sophomore Johns against a top 10 Oregon because the matchup called for it, so I think it’s reasonable to expect him to do that again next year with Johns/Todd, especially since we won’t have a Teske level 5 and we’ll have a more balanced roster.

I am not sure how it will play out. Matchups and relative progress of teammates are huge factors but I do believe having Johns at 5 is an awesome tool to have in the toolbox.

When guessing at minutes you probably have to start with the assumption that Livers (if he’s still there), Franz, Eli and Christopher (if he comes) will all get at least 30 minutes each.

And if it’s a 9-man rotation, that’s five more players sharing about 80 minutes (an average of 16 minutes each).

The question is: Who are your five and how is that 80 or so split up?

Eli 30+
Christopher 30+
Franz 30+
Livers 30+
Johns 30+

Just my guess
