Also, remember Juann has a 5 year contract starting at $2 Million / year, + he made over $150 Milllion in the NBA. I don’t think out of state tuition and room and board should be too tough for him to handle.
Of course. I think Juwan is more concerned with winning games than paying tuition plus Jace’s other expenses.
10 for Dickinson seems low. My general guess for the every day rotation:
PG - Brooks (28) - Dave (12)
SG - Christopher (30) - Wagner (10)
SF - Livers (24) - Wagner (16)
PF - Todd (24) - Johns (10) - Livers (6)
C - Dickinson (20) - Davis (6) - Johns (14)
So Zeb, Cole, Jace and Williams all going to ride the bench? Also I think Davis has proven he can at least play 10 minutes per game as a backup.
Yep. I’d expect they get spot minutes at times, but you can’t have a 13 man rotation in college basketball. I considered allocating Davis 10-12 minutes but I think there’s just going to be too many good forwards to justify giving him that much time.
If we had UM Hoops Forum Awards then “my projected rotation” posts would take the top prize.
One thing to consider… we don’t really have any idea how Michigan would play next year. I think it would be a mistake to assume things look identical (or similar?) to this team.
As long as Baird gets his minutes, I don’t care.
Fair enough. I could see that. I could also see JH sticking with Dickinson/Castleton at the 5 for most games, Davis transferring.
Bajema in a “just a shooter” role off the bench. etc…
If UM’s main problem is how to sort out a loaded rotation next year, then we will be in a good place going forward.
I don’t think Franz can play the two, I think those minutes go to Zeb.
I’d say:
PG: Brooks (25), DeJulius (15)
SG: Christopher (28), Zeb (12)
SF: Wagner (25), Livers (10), Bajema (5)
PF: Livers (15), Todd (20), Johns (5)
C: Johns (20), Dickinson (10), Davis (10)
Williams and Howard redshirt. Maybe Williams steals minutes from Bajema. I don’t see a role for Nunez.
I think there’s a strong chance Livers is the only guy to get 30+
We won’t have an 11 man rotation unless we pick up the pace big time.
Or I guess I should phrase, we shouldn’t have an 11 man rotation unless we pick up the pace
I know its fun and all but I feel like guessing the rotations is a complete and utter crap-shoot right now. We don’t know whose gonna be on the roster to begin with much less how they’re gonna wanna play and what Juwan’s gonna want to do. I will say though… boy does it look like its gonna be a top-5 group in the country
Putting aside the minutes distribution, I think we need to marvel in the idea that Livers’ injury might lead to such amazing consequences for the program. It forced so many players (and JH) to step up and it might also result in Livers foregoing the NBA next year? Returning three starters instead of two and having the capacity (if JH so chooses) to fill the other two positions with players who successfully started in spots this year has to be a luxury afforded only to a select few teams. I can’t imagine that any of the select few approached March with as much potential as this current squad will. And that doesn’t even account for the (probably) incredible recruiting class.
A few thoughts:
-
If Davis is playing 6 minutes, why in the world would he come back? He’s already been to a Final Four, and has two BTT championships, so it’s not for hardware. He already will have a Michigan degree, so it’s not to get that. Austin Davis very likely wants to play minutes, and certainly more minutes than he’s already playing this year; and

I’d be pretty surprised if Franz Wagner gets 10 minutes a game at 2, especially on a team which does not have a starting 1 capable of controlling the ball 80% of the time. Since Eli is clearly not that guy, it means you’re playing Franz at the 2 only when DeJulius is in the game, which seems really non-optimal defensively, and possibly offensively as well.
Personally, I don’t think all of those guys are going to be on the team together–even assuming Christopher, I have a hard time envisioning both Livers and Todd on the roster. If they are though, you and others are trying to shoehorn to get them all decent minutes while, at the same time, assuming that guys like Jackson and Williams won’t see any time whatsoever.
I think both Franz and Livers would push 30 mpg.
Me too! In fact, I’ll be absolutely SHOCKED to see Mo get any minutes on the team next year, period!
Oops. Fixed.
I think there will be a huge difference in minutes from the start of the year to the end. The start of the year could easily rotate 12+ guys who are all getting a chance, but tightens down to an 8 man rotation come February.
I would think that if Dave is looking at a situation where he’d be playing 15 or less minutes, he’d transfer.
I think every single player on the roster has the ability to earn more playing time than they get in our predictions. And they need the mindset that they’re going to do just that.
