2019 - Wing - Franz Wagner (Commit)

Doesn’t say that he’s eliminated Michigan though, which is the key. If anyone from the staff with familiarity is retained, I assume he will at least listen which is all that you can hope for at this point when the coach that recruited him and coached his brother is no longer there. Plus he gets to spend a lot of time on campus with Moe and family, which I’m sure was fun.

read in the thread, actually sounds like we have a non zero chance still

I firmly believe the kid and his family gave JB a verbal assurance that he was going to come to Michigan. We were going to land Franz. He might have had his mind set on coming to Ann Arbor and that might be hard to change now. Especially given he is not a kid coming from somewhere in the US. He has no affinity toward other programs and probably limited relationships with other coaches. I am not saying we still get him but I do understand why we aren’t dead in the water.

I’m sure the next coach will want to bring in at least one or two of his own assistants, but I would hope at least Yaklich would be kept on, and ideally Washington as well. It sure would be nice if we could still land Cumberland, since the opportunity is there, and if the new coach would be interested in Wagner. It’s disappointing we will apparently not get to see Jalen Wilson suit up for Michigan, but perhaps if Juwan Howard is the choice, Jaden McDaniels becomes an option. I hope Cole Bajema still comes. Howard is not even close to my first choice, but of the names I’m seeing that Manuel is supposedly looking at, he looks to me like he might be least worst option.

Not too late yet on Wilson. We need a coach though.

Maybe, but de-commit’s rarely re-commit. Maybe no Wilson helps with Wagner, who would be competing with Wilson for pt.

If that Kansas commitment doesn’t come today or in the next few days, I’d say there’s still a decent chance. Maybe that’s just the hope talking.

They rarely do with the coaching staff is constant but in situations like this I’m not so sure. Didn’t Manny Harris decommit when Amaker was fired?

Manny and Legion both did. Manny recommitted after Mike Jackson was kept on. Legion went to Kentucky

Wow Alex Legion is a blast from the past. I was so excited when he committed. Let’s just say his career didn’t go the way that I thought it would.

No you wouldn’t.

Care to elaborate?

Paging @thetruth Is Franz a definite no without Beilein? Or does Howard leave a sliver of a possibility open?

Good question. My guess is it is still too early — probably depends on which assistant coaches are retained.

All that said, yes, inquiring minds want to know. What’s Wagner’s mindset with regard to UM.

Do we know which coaches spent the most time with Franz last week during his OV?

I thought I remember seeing that Saddi and Sanderson were big factors for Moe.

Would make sense since Saddi was around when Moe blossomed in 2016-2017.

Plus Juwan has NBA connections and is known for player development.

Legit talent that has us as the only college team in consideration.

We need players, he is a high level talent late in the game, he has to be a priority.

Saddi was his position coach, so I believe he probably has the closest relationship to him out of all the coaches. Also good friends with the support staff but idk how many of them would stick around

Juwan should call LeBron and ask him to get into Moe’s ears.

From what I hear, Beilein was obviously a huge draw given the familiarity with his coaching style and the relationship they had built. But it seems like Michigan is still in the running as especially his parents loved how well Moe was treated during his 3 years in AA and wouldn’t mind Franz to have a similar experience. The question is - and here you guys will know much better than me - whether or not Howard is even interested in bringing in a German kid at all?
