Think this would be a good fit. 40% from three on 263 attempts (plus 4/10 vs. non-D1), 87% from the line, and good TO and assist rates. Definitely a shooter to keep defenses honest.
Will dive into some more film later, but he is definitely not as versatile as a guy like Pierce. His shooting numbers are good in multiple areas, but coming up a level I would expect he primarily influences the game as just a shooter. Will watch more film though.
Any news from Kareem South? I saw Michigan was mentioned as in on him, but I’ve heard nothing about his recruitment since.
Probably a reflection of his overall talent level.
I will admit he hasn’t exactly killed it in his previous stops (though he was a good spot-up shooter at ND in limited run) but Chattanooga just seems really random. I suppose they did have a high usage guy transfer out recently (Kevin Easley). Maybe he just liked Tennessee and wanted to stay in the state, lol.
If we can’t get Cumberland or Wagner, I’d like to see beilein make a run at the hauser brothers.
If he can play defense at all, and if he can shoot I think he’d be a great add as a grad transfer.
Edit: Just watched his tape. He has great range, can shoot off the dribble, can take it to the hole, has a decent handle, and can pass it adequately. He shot for 40% from three, averaged over 17 ppg, and 3.5 assists per game.
Now, it’s difficult for Michigan to get kids into our grad programs, and that may have been part of the problem with grad transfer candidate Justin Pierce, but if Jaevin wants to come to Michigan and can get admitted to our grad school, then heck yes he’d be a definite take for me. In fact, and this isn’t sour grapes, I think he’d fit our needs better than Justin Pierce!
Idk the ins and outs of admissions but I am guessing the fact that he comes from an instate public school will help quite a bit with getting him admitted to grad school.
Silverblue, if Wagner eventually commits to Michigan, then you may be right that we might be better off with Cumberland vs Pierce. Why? Because if both Pierce and Wagner joined us, we would have 3 good newcomers whose most appropriate position is the 3 (SF) with one of them being a grad and the other two being freshmen.
With Cumberland and Wagner joining us, we would have freshmen Wagner (who has adult competition experience) and Wilson at the 3 position with the 2 position having graduate Cumberland and freshman Bajema along with junior Brooks.
Wow. That’s unexpected. Is he a grad transfer? Doesn’t seem like Beilein’s style to take a guy from another program in conference, but he would obviously be a great fit.
This one had been rumored for a while, I believe. Look out for Illinois.
With Hyland not an option, I hope UM pursues this one.
Michigan needs to collect repayment from 3 grad transfers going within conference.
Yes, I believe he is a grad transfer. He was a redshirt junior last year which would make him a fifth year senior this year.
I guess I didn’t realize there are still more grad transfers out there.
Cumberland from Oakland (Saddi connection) probably gets a look.
Wouldn’t hurt to look at Power 5 Grad Transfers as well - can get a better feel on how game translates with their stats.
The truth is there are still new ones come out everyday, i.e. Moss from Iowa. I don’t even think he’s listed in the portal yet.
Edit: Yep, he’s in the portal as of about 10 minutes ago!
Honestly with any high profile shooting guard grad transfer or incoming recruit, I have a hard time imagining a better situation than the current one at Michigan. Immediate playing time, surrounded by veterans and a pass-first point guard, a proven history of this position and this role in the offense translating to the pro level. I’ll be seriously confused if this isn’t filled by someone that can make a serious impact quickly.
Is Moss from IA a shooting guard?
Would like Moss since he is Big 10 proven also curious about Kareem South. Got to hope JB has something up his sleeve here, still hoping he is looking at reclass kids.
