I like his film, but I’m a little concerned about his ball handling. He seems a little stiff to me - more Jerod Ward than Caris, IMO. But I think MattD is totally right, we need someone at the 3/4 position after Zak is gone. I’d be happy landing Cain.
His handle is part of the GRIII genes
His handle is significantly better than GR3 at the same age. Is he Trey Burke with the handle, no, but certainly better than GR3, Zak, THJ at the same age.
Take a joke.
When I say that he’s what I’d expect if LeVert and GRIII had a baby:
-
It’s a joke.
-
It means that I don’t think his handle is not LeVert level (L.A.) but not GRIII level (MattD)… rather a mix (somewhere in between).
Relax, folks.
I wasn’t even referring to you. Use context
I was the one who referenced GRIII and how Cain’s handle relates to GRIII and you responded with the next post shooting that down.
You weren’t responding to me though? I need to learn what context is, I guess.
You are clearly higher on Cain’s handle in relation to LA, hence your Micky Ds comment above. My post was a response to LA.
I think that’s probably right, but of those three, the only guy we’ve ever used much in a pick and roll context is Zak, and that’s been mainly out of necessity, not because he’s all that well suited for it. That would be my question/concern. I’m not sure we would really need to use Cain as a facilitator, but if we do, he doesn’t jump out at me on film as someone who could definitely do it. Maybe. If I compared his film to Maishe Dailey, for example, Dailey looks like the better ballhandler and passer to me. (I liked him, by the way - wish we were in a position to offer). Either way, if Cain’s offensive game was “only” similar to Tim’s, I’d still be very happy with that. He’s got length, athleticism, and a nice looking jumper. We can work with that even if the handle isn’t fantastic, and maybe it is.
Definitely think Cain’s handle is superior to Daile, who never showed much in terms of change of direction IMO. Clearly not the same type of ball handler in comparison to Josh Langford or Jaylen Brown, but better than a THJ or Zak. Think Cain is the exact type of player we should be targeting but often miss out on - a 50-75 guy that doesn’t have blueblood offers yet, is local, and fills a spot where we sorely need an upgrade.
We can agree to disagree on Dailey - on the following tape, I think he shows a pretty nice handle, and as far as change of direction, I’d point to the clips at the 1:43, 2:20, 3:30, and 4:10 marks.
But I do agree Cain is the type of guy we should target. When you say we “often miss out on” those types, though, I’d disagree. Hardaway, Nik, Morris, and Burke were all in that general range, and Glenn of course was ranked #120 when he first committed. And Irvin, Walton, and Chatman, while all actually ranked higher than that, would probably fall into that range had they been accurately ranked (well, Chatman might still be considerably lower). After the title game, we started recruiting higher ranked guys and passing on guys in the range you’re describing - guys like McQuaid and Kyle Guy, for example, and probably Huerter as well, since we basically wanted him to reclassify to 2017 before offering. Simpson, though, also falls into the range you’re describing.
Yeah, we just have to disagree on Dailey. His change of direction comes off poor close outs and transition. My standards are higher than most. Def some nice passing in PnR and transition though. Cain has better handle and change of direction. Dailey might be the better shooter, verticality probably a wash.
Also, without getting into a big debate, all of the guys you referenced above were prior to 2014 (excluding Chatman, who we can safely say was not a top 75 type). The 2 years of lackluster recruiting set the program back, just how much has yet to be determined.
Just took a look at his film, not a bad player at all. Seems to have a decent handle. Don’t really see the need with Poole in the mix though. Our biggest need is clearly at the 3 and 4 spots.
I’d take him just cuz of the hair. We’ve lacked personality in regards to hair at Michigan
Solid game. Not super athletic but not a bad athlete either. Looks pretty decent sized and he’s got a solid all around game. Skilled and looks like he scores in different ways.parksr is solid. What’s he ranked? Cain looks to be a better prospect to me though. A class of poole young and Cain would be a step in the right direction. I think we’d compete for big ten titles yeR in yeAr out 17 on.
I feel like Poole can be what Beilein wanted Stu Douglass to be (but Douglass just wasn’t very good).
Offensively, Poole will most certainly exceed anything Stu ever did, defensively not so much.
Jordan Poole is certainly a nice start to making up for a few bad years.
We’re not looking at culver are we.
