Warde needs to step in. That’s where we are at now with JB’s recruiting.
Matt, is UM still looking at Christian David?
Now that’s he’s prepping in the US, ESPN lists him as a 4-star (Grade: 86)/ #17SF/6’7"-190. Has offers from Baylor, Oregon, Illinois, and various others.
Very odd to me as well…haven’t heard David mentioned with UM in months. Seems like a JB type without doubt. I was a fan of his game to be honest. Wish him luck wherever he ends up.
Why the hell would we be going after this kid? He’s slower than Doyle. Why would we, because he can shoot a little? Another 6’8 white kid to get blown by on defense. Let’s spend time and resources on good players please.
You should totally email Beilein.
I’ve spoken to him personally before, may need to do so again lol. On a positive note, mr. David looks like he would be a great addition in 2017 to play with Poole for 4 years.
I’m with you on that. Ever since I’ve seen film on young I’ve been preaching he is a must get. I’d be after him hard if I were coach b. He’s the only player I really really want to see with Poole. I’ll be very happy if we land him
This is becoming embarrassing !
Great post. Some people just can’t take a joke.
If this Canadian kid gets offered and Cain doesn’t old I’d personally be upset.
Cain should be the first priority, no doubt about that.
Djurcic isn’t bad, he is slow but he works hard to rebound, can block shots. He’s a terrific passer which is nice to see, haven’t seen much right now of an offensive game he’s getting double and triples thrown his way so he passes out. He had a chance to run out on a fastbreak but instead helped an opponent off the ground I am not sure how I feel about that. Could he be a good D1 player? Yes he could. How long would it take at a Big Ten school to start to produce? Maybe a couple years with one of them being a RS. Not sure Michigan is in the situation to offer guys like that, they need players asap.
Agreed. Looks like he scored 31 pts in a win today in the OFSSAA tournament (about half his team’s points). If they play Henry Carr in the finals it might be worth tuning in to see how he matches up with probably the best team in the province (outside of Orangeville Prep I guess). Still absolutely agree that he will take 2-3 years to make an impact. Harvard is interested and he’d be a good addition to the group of solid four-year guys Amaker is building there.
Hey Matt, great call on Lewis and Hardy. Wouldn’t mind Lewis at all in the 17 class. The guy I wish they would get after is Abu Kigab from Toronto who isn’t getting highly recruited yet but plays with Josh Jackson. See this report on him from NBA all star event, doubt JB touches cause of the weaknesses but strengths are exactly what this team needs.
Abu Kigab, 6’7, Prolific Prep, Canada, 1998
Jonathan Givony
Strengths:
-Has good size for a wing at around 6’7, with a very strong frame and solid length. Fluid athlete who can play above the rim
-Very versatile player who does virtually everything on the floor at this stage
-Loves to grab a defensive rebound and take the ball coast to coast
-A freight train in transition. Bounces off opponents. Has excellent body control.
-Prolific slasher in half-court as well. Drives straight into the teeth of the defense and takes hits around the rim willingly. Shows some creativity as a finisher
-Has excellent court vision and an advanced feel for the game for his age. Makes full-court passes ahead in transition and drive and dish plays in the half-court. Sees the double-team coming and passes out of the post.
-Can carve out position in the post with his huge lower body. Has some ability to score with back to the basket
-Not a total non-shooter. Made a handful of jumpers with feet set and off the dribble showing nice touch
-Multi-positional defender. Uses his length and feel to contest shots all over the floor. Gets in passing lanes regularly.
-Has incredible self-confidence and swagger for someone his age.
Weaknesses:
-Lacks a degree of explosiveness. Has the type of frame that could get out of shape quickly if he’s not careful
-Very inconsistent shooter at this stage. Rigid release that makes it difficult for him to get a shot off cleanly when closely contested
-Very emotional guy. Had some outbursts that rubbed some the wrong way. Extremely competitive but needs to do a better job of channeling his energy
-Borderline cocky at times. Can get out of control and force the issue. Very good passer but seemed to freeze out his teammates as camp moved on.
Outlook: Born in Sudan and emigrated to Canada when he was very young. Extremely unique talent who is very unheralded at this stage. Currently considered a mid-major caliber prospect by recruiting services, but undoubtedly will end up playing at the highest levels of college basketball. Do it all forward who guards many different positons and can play a variety of roles offensively. Will need to become a much better shooter to reach his full potential. May end up playing some power forward in college
Obviously not a very informed opinion, but based on the film below, I’m much rather have a guy like Kigab than Djuricic. Funny thing is that Kigab finishes quite easily over Djuricic toward the end of the second clip. Thing I like most about Kigab - he plays at one speed, fast. Motor will not be an issue with him. He’s an above average/good athlete that looks like he could defend a 2/3 and defend smaller 4s. Definitely has some defensive versatility. Has some work to do with his shot, some extra movement in the lower body. His handle is a bit loose, but not horrible. Definitely my type of player though…an athlete with motor.
Are we going after Brian Bowen seriously? He is what should be called a must get and we should be doing everything in our power to get this kid.
Being from Illinois, I’ve gone to watch a few kids and nojel Eastern is such a great talent. I just realized him and Bowen are both projected to go to state but those two with Poole would probably be too much to ask for but they can really play. Eastern is more 6’5 but his handle is already plus and can get to the rim with ease. Those 3 together would do wonders for Michigan.
im not even gonna try to read this whole thread but can someone break it down, like whats going on with recruiting for this class, because i guess JB is is recruiting worse players than we should be recruiting
I think Brian Bowen is an upper tier wing, but I also think he’s overrated. I don’t think there is any way that kid is a top 15 type player (unless the 17 class is very weak). Think he’s closer to a 30-60 type player. Just lacks the handle at the wing/guard spot to justify a top 15 ranking IMO.
Alright. I take your word. I’ve seen eastern in person and his handle is plus for a junior. With the body he has he seems like he would be perfect for beilein. Shot needs a little work but who’s better at that then beilein? MSU wants both these guys.
