2017 Recruiting Notes

God I love that gym!!

Matt I think it comes down to who we are recruiting vs Cain. And when you look at that I agree Cain deserves an offer. I still think we need better than both groups

I was referring to Lewis but both are nice prospects (sorry if that was ambiguous). I really like the highlights of Lewis is what I meant.

I also like Lewis because of the strength factor.

The deal is another year could make a huge difference. Cain could very easily pick up an offer in May and it might be too late. As long as Michigan is looking at top athletes to fill the position I canā€™t fault the no offer. Now if we are going for shooters who canā€™t move then Iā€™m with you Matt.

Hereā€™s my take - Cain is the better handler, better shooter off the bounce, better shotblocker, more length, more verticality. Lewis is equal in terms of catch and shoot, not as good of a ballhandler, but a more willing rebounder that isnā€™t afraid to mix it up in the paint and get physical.

Think Cain has more upside, but depending on where JB plays Cain (IE the PF spot), Lewis might have more utility as a freshman. That being said, I still like Cain more.

Fair enough plus youā€™ve seen him live

I donā€™t think thereā€™s much doubt that JB would play him mostly at the 4. UNLESS Wilson or Chatman prove they can hold that spot and then Cain would only see spot minutes there much like Irvinā€™s freshman year because GR3 was holding it down. Seems like Cain is built like Keita Bates Diop and I think JB woulda had KBD at the 4 as well.

Hence the need for Young AND Cainā€¦that way you have all the skill you need, but donā€™t give up defense/size/rebounding. This is why pursuing the Jarrod Wests of the world makes absolutely zero sense IMO

I love Young and want him in the class. After that, Iā€™m for taking the best perimeter player we can get, regardless of position. Young and BPA

At the 4 spot, Young HAS to be the #1 priority. He has a skillset we sorely need in terms of rebounding/physicality/interior presence, had adequate size, already plays his college position (as opposed to being an oversized wing ala DJ Wilson), is from the Midwest, seems like a JB type kid, and is an attainable type recruit in the 60-80 range. Think Isaiah Livers is a good fallback option at the 4.

After that we need a 2/3 creator in my opinion, and it would be very nice if that player can be serviceable on defense. To that end, I think Cain should be the #1 priority. The kid has a plus handle, a good looking shot, length and athleticism for days, is right down the street, has visited numerous times, and is attainable at the 50-75 range IMO. Think Terrence Lewis is a good fallback option at the 3.

Beilien has really lost it

UM watched Danilo Djuricic (17/PF) today in Windsor.

Got the inside scoop on him?

Looks like Djuricic led all scorers (20 points) in a blow out win. I think St. Mikeā€™s plays again in the OFSSAA tourney tomorrow morning ā€“ apparently the game is streaming live from the OFSSAA website for those interested. I havenā€™t been blown away by the film Iā€™ve seen of DJ. The competition level is pretty good though ā€“ if they win tomorrow, theyā€™ll likely play Vaughan, where Andrew Wiggins played before he went to Huntingdon.

Donā€™t know much about him, as he plays in Canada, so the exposure obviously isnā€™t going to be what it is here in the States. Based on limited film, I like Young, Cain, Lewis, Livers moreā€¦again though, not a very informed opinion because the film is so sparse. Film below is 8 months old

Some more Djuricic highlights from a game this seasonā€¦ looks kinda slow.

If we had a 2013 recruiting class on campus then I would say this kid could fit a role.

Since we donā€™t, just no. Not nearly athletic enough.

I agree 100%, but it also would not surprise me at all if we ended up getting someone worse.

There are some GREAT prospects in Ontario ā€“ look no further than Jamal Murray ā€“ but IMO Djuricic isnā€™t one of them.

I canā€™t believe this is a serious recruit

UM has watched no less than 3 times, the kid took an unofficialā€¦so it is most definitely serious. We may not like it, but it is serious. I read an article a few months back where he expressly stated he expects an offer sometime in the near future.
